Yes. Does anyone know how similar HL2 map making is to HL1? I know it uses Hammer but what about those weight and material thingys... And is it possible to convert maps from HL1 to HL2? What about those "units"? Are they just those old units or are they now cm's or inches?

Thanks

On the whole its basically the same thing. Only now you don't use brushes to make the detailed stuff, you'd use props instead.

By the sounds of it materials are just different to wad files as jpeg's are to zips. As in materials are single files with everything required for that particular material in them as opposed to .wad's from before which were more like zips with lots of textures within.

Units I think I read somewhere are more realworld now. Or atleast the proportions, in HL1 you had to kinda make your doors wider than they would be. Source its apparantly fixed.

If you've got the original .map files for your HL1 maps you should be able to convert them, they'll likely need some editing and fixing up but generally should work.

Other changes are I imagine the entity list, with old entities and effects being updated (hopefully) and new ones added to the mix that'll need learning.

Generally it shouldn't be too steep a learning curve.
