HL2 mods and Steam

So what did Valve say regarding Steam and Hl2 mod?
Will they choose the best mods and put them on steam (Like Codename:Gordon) or will it be just like the old HL mods ?
I read also about making people pay for playing mods, if you guys could clear me up please.
If you guys have any links I would appreciate it.

Codename: Gordon isn't a mod, and it was not good... All mods will be compatible with Steam, but the more popular ones I think Valve will put up for pre-download..

Well, yes, Valve will pick the better mods and put them up for distribution and the mod team can choose whether or not to charge. I'm saying that all HL2 Mods will be compatible with steam, just like HL1 mods..

Yup, best not to think about the end until you have a beginning. Is E-Force aiming to be one of the better mods that will be distributed?
