HL2 Multiplayer - Small games?

Wrong forum! MOVED!

nooooooo its still here..

As far as I know the far cry beta had many more then 8 players in the same session..

The second FarCry demo sucked soooo badly! Why the fúck are there suddenly monsters involved?!

HL2 boasts support for 32 players initially, but I think it may have been mentioned it's able to mod higher than this. Valve are pretty good with their netcode so hopefully the lag will be minimal in huge firefights :)

It probably means that's what you need to host 8 players; for more than 8, you need a higher upload.

Only if you ahve the option to have small games. If you actually cant have more than 8 players, then its just crappy.

Anyway i think Abom is right, and the point about Hl2 is true as well. It was said by gabe that multiplayer could support many more players, however the famous "its a design decision" came into play and he said that modders would be able to do it.

Ive played on BF1942 (Not famous for its netcode) with 64 players and there wasnt much lag for anyone really. Its possible so long as the server is a decent spec and the pipeline is fat.

That doesn't mean that the game will only support 8 people, but that you can only host 8 people from a broadband without it lagging. That's fairly normal really.

I'm pretty sure it was said that HL2 servers will be able to "link" together, and that they could have any number of players (well, theoretically..)

I think this was mentioned by VALVe around the time HLR visited their offices
Anyone remember this?

I'm fairly sure that there will be support for more than 8 people.

monsteres were ALWAYS a part of farcry...since day one.
