HL2 Multiplayer speculation

Someone may be able to back up my memory here, as i recall reading a preview of Team Fortress 2 a few years ago, whereby the artivle went into news about "ground breaking" new voice enhanced netcode.

It wasnt until a few days ago that i thought about this article again and have tried to find the some cached google info on it to no avail.

Basicly, it explained that any voice in the game will transcribe onto the character models. Just like in the SP game!

So when a team mate tells you to "flank left" the mouth on his model will move to the voice.

As you know, any news on TF2 diminished, and i am speculating that what was discussed in these previews might make it to HL2 multiplayer.

A small, but interesting feature.

heres hoping

CS already does this.

Not perfectly, someone might say hi and his mouth will go up and down until he stops pressing whatever key is for his mic.

I'm sure this will be a feature of HL2. I think Gabe even commented on it in an interview or on the info thread.

At least we know the MP will have 'variety.'

EDIT: To clarify Gabe's comment were on the based on improvements over the CS lip-synch technology. Better codecs etc.

Yep, he said it is done using a scaled down version of the SP lipsynch technique. And the mouth would only move if you talk, since it would translate the wave.

It will be funny to see how a character visualize noise :p

I think HL2 MP out of the box will be just as good as the first one :cheese:

All the voice and netcode related stuff they planned on doing with TF2 has been implemented into the Half-Life engine with its updates, including the lip-sync when players use voice-comm.

I actually believe it syncs with your voice a bit. I tried it out when it was first added.

BTW I think what was cool about the stuff in TF2 was that if you said something to your mic, it would be like a noise in the gameworld rather than a radio message that everyone can hear.

in the official info thread this was allready stated as being possible and could be incorporated into a mod with out much trouble

a huge improvment to the standard radio

you can charge and yell and talk smack while your fighting :0 :sniper:

Oh goody, you can talk and the models lips will move... but will I still be able to play over a 56k modem?
