I've noticed that there are quite a few HL2.net'ers in the UK, and I was wondering if we should have a meetup, or something? I'm not entirely sure about elsewhere, as I'm only familiar with the UK.

If we did, how about somewhere in the Midlands? I know a few Lan Cafes...

EDIT: Was going to say we'll see you at ECTS but it's trade/media only so we'll be there, but you won't :p

Oer, fantastic.

I'll consider some train tickets, or something.

Just saw that.

:-/

So, back to the starting point, it seems.

....

Okay, a meetup, for those with a mental age below 10 (sorry if this applies to you, and I ever end up meeting you), or who are weak with the English language, is where people come together from different locations to see each other. Usually, they do something as a group, maybe have a little party, or something.

I can swim across the Atlantic to get to you guys. Can't afford a boat or plane or anything, but I'm a good swimmer. Only I'm not. :)

Ya, I think us western hemisphere people would have to have a separate one. :p

How's Missouri sound? Good? Good.

Yeah, the middle of the country would be good.

Most of the users on this forum are young. You'd need parental guardians and permission slips

It would be a bad idea and too bothersome to organise.

Permission slips? What are we? A school organising a field trip? :p

I'll be organising something when HL2 is released but in the mean time we could arrange a seating area for a whole group of us at an i-series (http://www.multiplay.co.uk) they are the biggest LAN events around in the UK and are held at Newbury racecourse which is pretty accessable to most people.

For all intents and purposes.. yes. Someone would legally be in charge of children and responsible for them and what happens to them. Which would be you (rest of us wouldn't do it heh)

Without parental permission you could be seen as kidnapping.. I know people are laughing but check the laws. Even more problematic if there was a meetup in the US, the whole transporting minors across state lines and all that.

Put it this way, if a couple of them got pissed, you'd be responsible and charged for allowing minors to drink. If someone had an accident you'd be help responsible for that too.

So yeah, meeting up for people under age is a bad idea, too many problems and a bad idea.

Pretty sure that lawyer guy is still lurking around these forums, he could probably confirm the above.

.. Besides, can you imagine it, it would be like #halflife2 only you couldn't ban anyone heh.

Good God. What on earth would make people from here want to actually meet each other? I can't think of anything more hateful.

So are you saying that if I decide to go down to the local play park and invite a few friends online to play with I need their mumsies to write some kind of form to let them come down? You think I'm going to sit down and exactly write up a load of legal consent forms and go through the legal system for a quick bash of HL2??? Pffft :) People are responsible for themselves.

People are yes, the grown ups, those deemed by law to be responsible for themselves, but not those under age. You can't simply take a bunch of children off somewhere without their parents or guardian's permission.

Bleh. The world sucks. Over 18's only then, at least then we can share our Alyx nude models in safety.

Oh Fenric! You have to ruin everything, don't you!?

heh, I would rather him ruining it than the police. :(

Oh well, you guys should set up webcams and take a couple group pictures for all of us who will be at school and can't afford plane tickets.

lol, SHIPPI would you want to risk it tho. I thought you read these forums!!? :p

I would probably be up for it. Allthough it kinda depends...

Whilst I'm under 18, my Dad would probably come with me for the LAN fun anyway, so I'm pretty non-applicable!

:p

I don't know why but that made me think of HL2.net members wearing name tags at such an event lol.

Well we've had a HUUUUGE discussion/argument in the staff channel

a few choices emerged basically

anyone under 18 either wont be admitted. OR.. must come with a parent or guardian. And for Munro's protection that would involve speaking directly to that parent or guardian.

Frankly thats the only possible way its gonna ever have a chance of happening if your under 18. Cause if something went wrong... well, I'm having nothing to do with it, and most certainly wouldn't be there, which proves how iffy I consider it.

But don't worry Shippi, Badger will be there, he promises haha
