^This is the other one, our "white" ninja which still needs to be modeled :/

Are they hobbit ninja's? You need to look into proportions. Also if your going to make a color version over a sketch, you don't sketch in all the details, just guidelines to follow, otherwise it makes things messy and it also boxes you in, keep things free to begin with and flowing before settling on blocking parts and then detailing.

I'll admit the portions are really skewed, but they do convey the idea... as far the suggestion about lack of detail for coloring over, i disagree, when i color in via photoshop i look at like painting(have it set up to work very similar) and i use the pencil detail for guildlines and sometimes even for the base shading till i build up the color/layers

:D that's exactly what I was going to say. Work on proportions and those chest muscles look way too dark in the shadows, looks like a little island.

Otherwise it looks nice, if a bit un-touched up.

accually i got to thinking about it(cause i know the head is a little big and the arms a bit long, but i couldnt understand the midget comments) , the legs arent as short as you think, the pants are just suppose to be baggy and the crotch is higher then where the folds of the materials meet... if thats not what your talking about then i guess i'm not sure what your talking about

In that case, pull up their pants, because currently it looks as though his torso, arms and legs are all equal in length.
But if the character's crotches are actually higher up enough for proper-sized legs, then that would mean that their arms and heads are too large.

The proportion issues, combined with the ankle bandages, give him the shin-less look of Hank Hill's dad.

yea i'll admit the head is a tad bit large, and in my sketch book i did correct the arm's length, bit late thou for the already scanned image above... and as for the the baggyness of the pants, i accually was using a reference picture and thats the look they had... tended to wear them loose for more flexablity and keeps you guessing exactly where flesh is in a fight(i guess, i'm not a ninja :P)

oh btw heres an update of the first one...

fine, the legs on the black/white ninja are too short, it was a quick sketch intending to show off the style/look of his gi with the hood and such...

Trouble is that the proportions affect the style too. Like his belt is up at the midway point between his nipplies and navel, and it's tough to tell how the pants fit without being able to tell where his knees are. :P

It's always best to get the proportion right first. The best method, I find, is to draw really messy and quick stick figures- then just keep rubbing them out and re-drawing them until you have a figure with a proportion that you like. then you start fleshing it out... and because you calculated the proportion before hand, there's very little chance of it going wrong, and people making Hobbit jokes about your work.

shh enough i get it, i shouldnt post pics that have flaws :P, comment on the other picture now :P
