I now have a new computer. I just installed HL2 and Steam. Let it decript the game files, updated it, and ran it.
After the Valve thing came up and the game screen came up, this popup comes up, saying;
Failed to set video mode - resetting to defaults.

Game will now restart with the new video settings.
I hit OK, and it keeps popping up. :x Finally, it shows this;
Failed to set video mode.

This game has a mininum requirement of DirectX 7.0 compatiable hardware.

My system;
CPU: AMD 64 Athlon 3000+
OS: Windows XP, SP2
RAM: 768MB
Video Card: nVidia GeForce FX 5200, 128MB (SAME card I had before! With latest drivers)

Please assist. :(

Latest drivers? try rolling back to say 71.89, thats what i have my drivers at for my 6600 gt, the newest ones are messed up, and nothing works correctly for me.

Also did you install Directx 9c?

DirectX 9.0c was installed with the computer.

How do I get the 71.89 drivers? And what do I have to do to uninstall the latest driver (77.72), to get this?

Edit: I found the 71.89 drivers. Do I just overwrite over the existing drivers?

Edit: GAME WORKING!!! :E I uninstalled the 77.72 drivers by deleting the directory. Then installed the 71.89 drivers, had to reboot, did that, then it found my Video Card, and "VGA Video Controller", and "Plug and Play Monitor", wanted me to reboot again, did, ran HL2. NO Popups!!! :thumbs:

Thank you! :cheers:
