HL2 on CPU's

I was wondering if you needed an internet connection to enable you to play HL2??

What i mean is when i buy my new pc will i need to download steam to play it or can i just bash in the disc?

You do indeed need an internet connection. The system requirements on the box do not lie. However, you won't need to download Steam or Half-Life 2 if you buy it from the store, you simply need to connect so it can "validate your files" - a 20 minute or so anti-piracy related thing.

I don't recommend bashing in your disc. That's not what baseball bats are for.

I believe the HL2 disk includes the Steam installer? As for playing offline I'm not actually sure.

I'm hoping that the next batch of dvd/cd's don't actually need to be decrypted.

You can just install and sign up and play.
