Does increasing ram in the computer help to increase the fps ?? I got above 50 to 100 when i play in a 10 man css server, but the fps drop to above 20 when i play in a 40 men css server.

the ram that i have is pretty cheap, 512mb pc 2100, my question is whether i should get more ram if i want to have higher fps in hl2 or css ??

I got an extra Kinston 3200 512RAM. I didn't make much difference in Doom 3 (3 extra frames in timedemo). I hope it makes a bigger difference in the large outdoor areas of HL2.

PS: Wrong forum, don't worry it'll get moved.

With that much I doubt adding more will effect your FPS at all.

512 mb shoulg be enough to run HL2. I've just upgraded to 768Mb so I can play more hardware oriented games

i know 512 mb is good for css and maybe hl2 too, i have no problem running css, i don't experience any graphical lag, even it's just above 20 fps, it's still very playable, i can still aim and kill. but this is just css dust, what if it's css aztec(one of the laggest maps in cs) and also the future dod source and other source games.

I have another noob question. if i buy a new cpu, does the mobo come with ?? or i have to buy the cpu and the mobo seperatly, then install one on the other ??

At highest settings on CSS with Steam, a custom Windows theme and a few other small programs running in the background, there is the odd judder as stuff is loaded from the HD after normal loading has finished - my 512MB is just enough, it seems. Given that dust is a small, simple map I'm certiantly getting more before the game comes out.

Now, back to Onslaught in UT2004 - oh, wait...:p

Taking an un educated guess I would say if you have a reasonably decent spec pc 512 ddr would do fine, A lower spec would defently benefit with 1gb

By a Reasonably decent spec I mean at least a 2.00GHz Processor, g4ti 128mb or Radeon 9600pro , ata100/133 hard drive anything below this and coupled with only 512 mb it would struggle unless you set everything to low detail

1gb is really a must with nearly all the recent games I've played

Just my opinion

If you do plan on sticking with 512ddr shut down all other services that are running as mentioned above as this would free more of you memory for half life , I recommend Using somthing like " SPY BOT SEARCH & DESTROY" in advance mode it tells you whats runing and lets you disable un_needed services hogging your memory, Infact I recommend doing it anyway even if you have 1gb.

No; RAM used to store information in a way that is faster to access than the hard drive. You need more at higher levels because the textures and models you are loading are bigger and need more space. At lower settings you need less.

I have 768mb PC2700, runs without a prob, only issue is the initial loading of the first map apon startup is a little below average, but subsequent maps load uber fast.

(basing that on a few switches between test_hardware and de_dust)
