Should we leave the community if we don't have 18 years old ?

when we purchase the game on steam, how do they know we are miners ?

Well, minors aren't supposed to have credit cards...

Miners on the other hand... I suppose if you had your pickaxe they might know you were a miner.

Oh, I don't know, coal dust covered face, squint, bad back, asbestos in your pants...

...oh. Minor, right. Well, presumably parents could allow their kid to use their card; meaning that if the idiots in question do go on a killing spree, if the parents consider suing they should be force fed each others limbs. I'm not violent, no siree!

Probably looking to far into the possibilites there...

In England it's illegal to have credit if you're under the age of 18. I assume that's the same in the States and most other countries?

We won't be making the community have an 18 year minimum age. It's only illegal for them to buy the game, not play it. Therefore it's not illegal for them to discuss it or see pictures etc.

The game has not been offically rated yet until its been posted on the ESRB website.

I know that some retailers have the "M" rating label on their sites, but I think they're guessing, and its not official. I remember when I bought Starcraft it was rated "M" on the CD case when it was actually rated "T."

That's not to say that I think it won't be rated mature. I'm just saying its unofficial at this point.

It's not in the US. I had a check card when I was 17, which is essentially the same thing, except you're paying with your own money instead of relying on credit.

Vivendi's official trailer has the M for mature rating on it.

Well then legally you're not allowed to redeem the voucher if under the age of 17. But someone could do it for you :)

In Denmark you can have a credit card when you want, if your parents agree, and sign on to have the responsibility.
On the other hand. When you are 16 you can have a credit card, allthough you cannot use more money than what you have earned.

The ESRB ratings aren't law or anything... only some stores decide to enforce it at all...

;) no no was just a theoretical question. i'm 21, but in fact that nobody knows when hl2 comes out, maybe the underaged get over 17 till it's released ;))

The rating is only a recomendation. Do you really need a credit card to buy off of Steam? Won't a "account card" suffice? I have one of those with Visa (which works just fine to pay over the internet with btw), but I don't have credit on it. And can't anyone have those?

hl2 is delaying , cuz the game is rated mature, and it takes time for its fans to grow matured.

ahahahahaha

yeah, 16 and below shouldnt play hl2. therefore, less annoying little 14 year olds on cs:s! WOHOO!!

eg 'omfg what a hax. la la la llalalalalalaa la la la LAAAAA'
grr.....

17 and above i would say. look at doom 3 ffs. its not even scary! and it was rated 18. rofl.

Nobody will give a rats ass about the rating, unless some braindead teenager goes and beats one of his mates to death with a crowbar/headcrab/stun baton/wrench/manipulator [delete as appropriate[.

Then we'll see another media backlash like that nonsensical one with Manhunt the other month, and everyone will want the game banned.

yes but the USA ratings dont apply in the UK, either the British Board thingy (BBFC) give it a rating (if it is 18, otherwise they dont bother) or the European board ELSPA/PEGI

doesnt mature mean grown up, so if someone runs into the shop who looks about 90 and throws a copy of half life 2 onto the counter then hes not mature enough to buy it?... unless he was a miner

Do you mean 90 as in born 1990? Because if you mean 90 years old, that's as grown up as 18.

That's a debit card, not a credit card.

The GERMAN link doesn't appear to have a set rating from what I could see.

Dude, it's Germany. Hell, Super Mario Bros was probably rated M for excessive violence (stomping goombas), excessive drug use (what did you think those mushrooms were?) and promiscuous sex (ok, so I made that one up; sue me).

Weren't the soldiers in half-life replaced with robots in germany?

here in my country nobody cares about rating
for example my brother buy singles and that game was rated AO(adults only) and my brother is 13 years old,but the ame runs paynfully slow in my pc

You sure about that? Here there's no age restrictions, it's the bank that sets the age restriction(Which is 18 for my bank :p)

No it isn't. There is no defined law on age restrictions, the bank decides when, the "Dankort"(Also works as a creditcard, although not online) can be given out regardless of age.

I've heard of a couple of friends getting the cards for traveling, so i would guess the visa part of the card can be given out as well, given our card, "Dankort", is only valid in Denmark.

Also yeah Debitcards can be used sometimes too. I only think that Visa Electron is the only one useable for that though.

(I believe mastercard made a debit-variant, but it usually only works in stores, not online).

you can have a credit card in the US and in canada, under the age of 18, as long as you have someone of age co-sign for it. the bill for your card gets added onto the co-signer's bill. My parents got me one when i was 15, in case i needed it, and thankfully, i never got one of my own. For people that cannot obtain credit, both visa and mastercard offer a branded card taht will work online, but instead of linking to a credit account, it links directly to your chequing account. This differs from a debit card, as the card will use the visa/mc netwrok for verification that the funds are there, and then place a hold on those funds in your account. generally the funds remain there for a day or 2, while your card and your account get up to date.

so, if you happen to have one of these cards, and are under the ESRB age guidelines, you can order it online, or via steam.(not that i promote it).
