HL2 recently stopped loading

Some months ago HL2 suddenly stopped loading. The picture which appears on the loading page is very blurry, it tells me the game is loading but no matter how long I wait nothing happens.

Also, after a while, my PC beeps at me as though to prompt me to o.k. or deny something or other but when I shut down HL2 in order to read the message (when I can shut it down - rather defeating the purpose of trying to load the game), there isn't a message to read.

I successfully played the game for ages until this began to happen, my account is absolutely fine and nothing has been done to my PC which might explain the problem.

Has this been happening this year to anyone else? I've lately been dying to get back into the game so it's driving me up the wall :angry:

Tried that "Beerdude" but nothing has changed. I've even reinstalled that whole thing several times but that didn't work either.

I hope that you or someone else can think of a solution, sometime because I'm dying for a game and there doesn't seem to be any reason for it to have spontaneously just quit loading.
