aight.. so its been at least a month since this site "officially" came back online..

my problem? well its not really a problem.. kind of an annoyance really..

i have to use the the IP adress that was given to me when the site first came back online.

the halflife2.net adress does not work for me.. well it does kinda.. it loads up the main page.. but none of the links work... i get the following:

The requested URL /forums was not found on this server.
Apache/2.0.49 (Gentoo/Linux) mod_perl/1.99_11 Perl/v5.8.3 mod_ssl/2.0.49 OpenSSL/0.9.7d PHP/4.3.6 Server at DAMNATION.e-frag.co.uk Port 80

i was told early when the site came back online that as soon as the DNS is updated (sites end or my end, i have no clue..) things would return to normal.

well its been a month right? or there abouts.. and still the only way i get access to the site is through the IP (which btw is http://69.28.175.116/forums in case anyone was wondering :p )

so um.. whats up with that? :p

thanks for the feedback in advance :)

Do you remember that time the forums went down before we moved to e-frag? Once again we had to wait for the DNS to propagate which took days for some people. A little trick other people tried was changing their HOSTS file. I imagine that you did this the first time, and basically your HOSTS file is telling internet explorer that the www.halflife2.net domain name should point to our old e-frag server - which is why you get that message.

To find this file open C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and select the HOSTS file. Just open it up in Notepad. Scroll right down to the bottom and type:

69.28.175.116 www.halflife2.net

If there are any other lines containing halflife2.net then remove them completely.

Save the file and exit. This will save it as a .txt file. Once out of it, change the name of the hosts file to "HOSTSOLD" then change the name of the text file from "HOSTS.txt" to just "HOSTS".

From now on it should work :)

thanks Chris :)

after following the steps u provided, it didn't work right away, i needed to reboot.. but it does work now..

hope this helps other pple that may be having the same problem :)
