Is there any big company who has licensed the HL2 engine yet? or any news on companies interested in licensing it? Im asking this because I havent heard of a single one?

Troika games already released Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines and then there's some kind of MMORPG coming... and I've got a feeling that there's more that we just haven't heard about yet...

It seems developers are more keen to develop their own engine these days. I can remember when Quake III engine was released, every developer was trying to licence it for their game. Some games still are such as Pacific Assualt which is on a heavily modified Quake III engine.

Really?! Seems very unlikely to me... Any proof?

Nah, thats just my own opinion, it seems that way for the majority of high-titles released last year.

Actually, I think 2004 was a bit different as it featured a few BIG brand new engines (CryEngine, Source, Doom3). However, in the near future I wouldn't be surprised if more and more devs resort to engine licensing simply because the tech for the game is out of the way very quickly, and the dev can focus on what's most important: the gameplay. More importantly though, they're able to show something off to potential buyers after only a month of work, and not a year of work.

Isnt there some ship themed one? Cant remember the name.
That's just a MMORPG being distributed over steam, no source engine.

That's cool that other people want to use the engine because it's so awesome. :D
