HL2 Steam Subscription Charge?

I heard a while back that valve were thinking about charging for people for using steam and CS when HL2 is realised? is this just a rumour or is it true?

Apart from "single-player only" (which is no longer planned), these are the ways you can purchase Half-Life 2. There will be no forced subscriptions for Steam or for Half-Life 2. I hope that's clear enough.

I doubt that they will you charge you every month to have HL2 from Steam

Valve may have it's moments where we question their insanity, but I doubt they would ever try to pull off something like that.
