HL2 steam

If you buy HL2 via steam, will you only be able to play it on the computer that you used to download it, or could you burn it to CD?

I ask, because I only have a 56k modem at home, but at work I have access to a 10MB connection.

Gabe said that they're only going to allow one copy of Half-Life 2 to be installed to one system. I can see this being a difficulty for LAN people.

you can login to steam from any computer conencted to the internet and play your games.

yes, you could goto work and downoad it, and then burn the cache file to cd and take it home, but, i dont know if there is a way to make steam download the whole game, because the way it works is it only gets the data that you need, so it might download stuff from the server while you're playing, so i guess getting the bulk of it at work would help, and then it might just download small things from your 56k as your playing, but im thinking there might be a "download whole game" option integrated into steam.

you know there is such a thing as a 'search' function....maybe you've heard of it...

sheesh this is like the 4th thread i've come across within the last hour, that could've been avoided if ppl searched instead of posting useless threads....

Here's a free advice, and by all means i think this would be an excellent sticky...'Read the damn "info from valve *only*" thread before posting any threads'....

^ worthless post.

Alternatively, you could buy the game.

See, I posted this because I wanted to get some info from people who know their HL2. I've been reading forums like these for a while now, but I have not come across the answer to this particular question.

I did do a search, but I guess I'm just not quite up to scratch with my search engine tactics.

I could have read through every single post, but quite frankly, I have better things to do on a friday night. You obviously don't, judging by how long it took you to respond to my thread.

Anyway, this wasn't another OMG HL2 DELAYED thread, I thought my question was valid, so I posted.

I plan on buying it instead of downloading it odd Steam.

Spitcodfry, actually, you can download it as many times as you wish on any computer. The only thing that stops you from playing online (and offline maybe? Not sute) is that you would each need a log-in that is Half-Life 2 verified. I'd find the source of this, but I'm about to leave soon.

Right can somebody clear this up for me:

I only realised today that I will be at University when HL2 is released. Now this is excellent news for me in general as I go from a crappy 56k modem to download speeds of 2Mb+ a second (amazing speeds for me). The problem is that the Uni Firewall only allows for HTTP and FTP communtication protocols - i.e no UDP or TCP/IP (I think that's what they are called).

Now this is perfectly fine for internet access and normal downloads, but renders P2P programs like Kazaa and stuff impossible to use.

How does Steam work? Please tell me I can use it at Uni. Because if not I'm going to be in the **** on September 30th.

Cheers,
SFA.

Well, if you happen to be going to Cardiff Uni, you'll be fine, cos that's where I work, and I've downloaded quite a lot lately.

Nah its Bangor Uni, North Wales. But its the Super Janet network - so its probably a similar setup...can you use stuff like Kazaa, BitTorrent and play games online? (outside the Cardiff Uni LAN).

Cheers,
SFA.

I'd have thought so, seeing as Iv'e done all that INSIDE the LAN.
