I have read a number posts and have tried many things, but I feel my last resort is to post a thread. HL2 is stuttering very bad. The video stutters and secondarly images, boxes, tables, etc disappear, and then once the stuttering ends everything comes back. Could this be a videa or a sound problem? Here is my specs:

Dell Dimession 4300 1.8 ghz
764 mb RAM
nVidia GeForce Ti 4200 128mb Vid Card
Santa Cruz sound card
120mb hard drive with 8 mb cache

Please help!

I have a very similar system to yours except for the graphics card, which is a 9700 pro, big difference there i guess, but i get no stuttering except for the universal save pause.

I have the same ammount of ram as you and have "-heapsize 502000" in the HL2 launch options, i doubt it will make much difference, but its worth a try, if you havnt already.

Nope, I have EXACTLY the same specs to yours, in fact, some things worse:

1.8GHz P4
128MB GeForce 4 Ti 4200
40GB 7200RPM Harddrive
512MB SD RAM
Onboard AC'97 sound

And I can play the game maxed settings (medium for that sweet sweet framerate feeling though) fine. There IS stuttering, only around autosave/quicksaves, and when the level is just finished loading, and I look around alot. After this, its fine.

You should play around with some settings. Your hardware should not be causing the problems your experiencing.

I must say though, im getting an AMD 2600+, 512 DDR 3200 RAM, and a sweet Gigabyte motherboard damn soon, and I cant wait to compare the difference in gaming :)

Have a search of the forums regarding fixes, and best of luck!

I have a 9000pro 1.79 gig 512mb ram.
I get 15 fps and stuttering, but nothing as severe as others reporting.

when i play windowed, i can get 40-60 fps! ;D **** yeah!

Did you get the stuttering a few weeks ago before the 'stuttering' update. If no try putting mat_forcemanagedtextureintohardware 0 into the console - this new command made my stuttering worse and made my FPS drop by 8fps in the stress test.

Maybe people with similar systems who have little or no stuttering telling the people with problems which driver combination they are using might be helpful.
