i am really stupid with computers...... do you think my computer can handle this game
2.40 GHz
512 ram
and could someone help me to find out what kind of video card i have. i have about a year and a half year old dell.
and i have an intel celeron

it's fine.

run "dxdiag" in the start menu run command, then go to the display tab and see what the graphics card is.

ok i did that now where do i see what graphics card i have

Click the 'display' tab and look under device and tell us the name of the device. I'm gonna take a guess at a ge-force 4 mx 420...go on tell us, wanna see how close i am?

I suggest getting a new video card.

Your computer, however, should be able to run it on low settings. Can't be sure with me, haven't tried it out on one.

ok, thz, how much will a new video card cost that will be good enough ohh and i acctually have 768 ram

It depends on what settings you want to run it on and how much you're willing to spend.

and if you have an agp or a pci slot, but im willing to bet you only have a pci slot.

YEAH I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE GRAPHICS (srry caps) i just want to play i guess i will just download the demo and see if it can play

no, there are different slots for graphics cards in your motherboard

PCI (older slot)
AGP (newer most used slot)
PCI-E (newest not used much right now though)

For a good card to run HL2 you'll need an AGP slot. You wont have a PCI-E, but you will have some PCI slots, which graphics card are poor tbh.

I'm about 99% sure he won't have an AGP slot. It's a Dell, not a particularly good Dell either, I had one before I 'upgraded' it to the PC I have now, and there was no AGP slot...and cause Dell are such a lovely company the case's are manufactured to a size that means you can't fit another motherboard.

Enjoy the game in low settings or you'll need to spend a fair bit of money upgrading.

you want high, and secondly if you have a high ping check steam has your connection set right, go to options and make sure its on cable. Also close any other programmes that might be downloading music or whatever obviously.

so i can play hl2 on lowest settings ever without upgrading.is that wht you are saying
