After noticing that the patch was installed on my computer, I started the game up hoping to play without any stuttering problems. But, as i continued my game from Highway 17 the game's frame rate dropped from a steady 50-60 fps to a mere 10-20 FPS!!!!! Now that is what I call rediculous! Could someone tell me how to fix this, or even better tell me how to undo the patch and go back to what I had before, because at least then I could play it without wanting to kill myself!

Thanks

P.S. I'm not a big fan of Valve anymore. :hmph:

Forgot to mention

Oops, forgot to mention....

I just recently bought a BFG Geforce 6800 Ultra OC off of ebay specifically for this game!! So Valve, please do me a favour and fix this mess, because you are making all of your dedicated fans very, very angry, especially me!

Here are some more of my specs:

P4 2.8GHZ with HT 800MHZ FSB
512mb DDR400 RAM
480watt PS
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
Logitech Z-680 5.1 Speakers

You could try either of these options from the new patch in your console.

mat_forcemanagedtextureintohardware 0

mat_forcemanagedtextureintohardware 1

If it's at one of those, switch it to the other. It might help or it might not. People are talking about this option and the NVidia cards not getting along, so it's worth a try.

Console is activated by using the key to the left of 1 at the top left of your keyboard. You might need to switch the console on in Options-->Keyboard-->Advanced

Edit: There should be no space between "har" and "dware" but this forum does that to that word.

ya, thanks for the reply, but that was the first thing I tried...I'm really getting frusterated because the game was playable before the patch came out and now it looks like I'm running it on a 486 or something, it's brutal!

Yeah, the patch also gives me errors like I've never seen before and it was pretty playable before that.

Weirdly, the patch makes my harddrive shut off and spin down, then HL2 stutters because it can't access it, and it switches the drive back on. It does this over and over. Eventually, after some hours of this, HL2 crashes and takes down XP, and, bizarrely, the crash then makes my harddrive function at 1/4 speed for Windows or anything else from then on. Then I fix the harddrive with System Restore. But then the fun continues as Steam downloads the patch again...

I'll never call Doom 3 any bad names again. ;)
