hl2 video settings

Im getting a new video card soon, possibly a 6600 GT (I know about its bad performance in hl2, but meh) and would like to know, when i turn on my comp for the first time with it in, will it automatically detect my video card and change the settings? Thanks

Aslong as you removed your old drivers first and installed the latest nVidia drivers then yes, the game should set the video settings to what it believes is right for your computer.
However it is often worth fiddling around with these settings as usually the settings will underestimate your computer's power.
