HL2 Video Stress Test

Did restarting CS:S help?

probibly a somthings missing did u mess with the files

You have a missing or corrupt model/shader/texture.

There are some bug reports like this on the Steam forums.

Checking your console might give you some clues. Use the ~ key.

Try deleting CS:S and re-downloading it if you want to try something drastic.

I think he should check the console first. If it tells what's missing/corrupt he should be able to get the file from someone without having to download it all over again.

It's included with CS:Source.
In my opinion, the VST should be publically available. Not via steam but BitTorrent. Everyone should have a chance to test their system.

yep, but valve in their infinite wisdom decided only CS fans should be able to benchmark their system for halflife2. brilliant

Yeah thats bs i dont have CS:S and i wanna test my rig...bastards.

/me goes back to watching EQ2 videos happily.

Don't worry about it, the VST is worthless. It certainly is not a benchmark, or an indication of how your system will run HL2. To be honest I don't know why they included it with CS:S.

why is it worthless? its an official benchmark from valve

I think you'll actually get a higher framerate in HL2 than you do in the VST, that why it's a stress test. The area with the stained glass Freeman was very taxing, but the rest ran pretty well even with all the parallax mapping around.

Yeah but it doesn't stress anything but your video card. There is pretty much no load on your CPU, its 95% graphics processing. There is no AI or physics to calculate, nothing. Personally I don't think it's a real indication of how HL2 will run.

Edit - Another reason I think it's bullshit is becuase there is no way my computer will run HL2 at a steady 70fps like it does in the stress test, with 4xAA and 4xAF.

if anyone played the leak then you know that , that means a model or texture or something is missing so the 'ERROR' model is used instead so that it doesn't cause a run time error. Many games have this.

It did this after I messed around with the Direct X versions in the video settings. Now my Steam menu takes for ever to come up and when I exit, I see a black screen forever until I have to manually shutdown my system.

is there any place that we can read results of what different comps have scored at?

In CS: Source, I get about 40-50 fps with no AA and High Settings.

It runs in DX 8.1

i get this same problem(exactly) it occured afer the new update after i got an overclocking program and /guilty, after i got new cs maps, /guilty not sure which one caused the problem though
i am not worried about the stupid vst i think it is pretty worthless too kinda like the 3dmark stuff. i will only worry if hl2 has these ERROR messages in it.
