hl2 vs. halo on sept 30th

im sure everyone knows, or at least will know now, that halo for the PC will be released September 30th, the same time Half-Life 2 will supposedly be released. I just want to hear what the Half-Life community thinks of this.

Does anybody here think Microsoft decided to release the game on the 30th, just to show up Valve if they slipped? I'm positive that if Half-Life 2 is released on the 30th, it will kill Halo, financially. But lets just say that Half-Life 2 is delayed to November (this is pretend, so please don't flame me.) Will anyone here buy it and play it until HL2 comes out? And do you think releasing Halo on the same day as HL2 will be "released" is good business sense, wether HL2 is on time or not?

Anyway, those are my questions. Remember, I'm not saying Halo is better than HL2, or it will be delayed, so please dont flame me. I'm very sensitive.
 
anyone whos participated in the halo beta knows there is no comparison in EVERY aspect
 
Nah, Microsoft has already made enough with Halo IMO. Gearbox doesn't even care that it was leaked, as they can't do anything about it. I'm sure that MS is going to prevent pirates from playing online by making patches, as usual. The fact that Halo is already an exisiting game doesn't raise sales...
 
I dont want Halo. I wanted it the first time I saw it displayed for PC, I continued wanting it the next months, I really looked forward to it (forgot to mention, the trailer was the coolest I had ever seen). Then Microsoft stepped in. Now I dont want it anymore. Simple as that :)
 
I won't buy halo, but I'll play it :cheese:
 
I think that Microsoft is taking a huge risk releasing Halo the same day as HL2, there is no way they can even come close to the amount of sales HL2 will get. However, if HL2 got delayed I think that Halo would do pretty well as it would hold off everyone until HL2 is released. I personally will not buy halo as I am waiting for Halo 2 for the XBOX, sure the graphics won't be as good as they are on the PC but it will be a completely new game and it will also feature multiplayer on XBOX live.
 
Well, Microsoft has been trumpeting the virtues of DirectX 9 and Half-Life 2.. much the same as Valve has been praising Dx 9 themselves.. so I think Microsoft will be glad that 2 big Dx 9 titles are coming out so close to each other because they both are shining examples of what can be done using their Api ;) Microsoft has made a mint selling Halo for the xbox, so I doubt they are too worried about Halo for the Pc selling, because alot of people have known about and wanted Halo on the pc for a long time, and people have only known about the existence of Half-Life 2 for a matter of months. I think both titles will sell well, though I believe that Half-Life 2 will sell better overall due to the fact that it is a platform debut, rather than a port :)

I really don't understand this concept. What is the difference on which company creates what when they both will be the exact same game. Simply because MS is a large company does not mean they make bad products, their good products is what makes them the biggest company in the world. I look at a game, program, whatever, by how good it is and the value it has, not by what company is making it.

Well, i WILL buy Halo. The only problem is that if hl2 is not delayed then i wont buy it. If i bought both games on the same day, i would never touch halo, since id have HL2. But if hl2 is delayed till november, december, feb. whenever...i will buy halo.
 
If this happed i would in no way waste my money on Halo when my mate has an xbox and also i have AOM the titans. I think that microsoft thinks that the public will buy their game just because they think they are soooooooo grat when in fact that they are crap and the only good games they make is the AOM series.

Hold on i need to calm down......
 
Halo by the way has a different gameplay and very good physics.
Anyone who watched the video from some japs some time ago, blowing up vehicles with people on board and shoot them on the air with rockets will know what I mean..
It'a a game that I want to play for sure like many others.

took the words right out of my mouth....that trailer was sooo sweet. then it was a mediocre to bad xbox game...now it's being ported to PC...worthless. i hope the warez scene rapes microsoft on this one

Half my life has been spent playing that 'bad' game. It's bloody brilliant!
 
I"ve played through the Halo beta as far as I could, and I have to say it's still pretty kick ass.

It looks alot better then the xbox version due to higher resolution textures and you can put AA/AF on, etc.

Not to mention that the multiplayer is completely different then the Xbox version. 2 new weapons, and gobs of new levels and gameplay make this a sure thing for me to pick up come the 30th.

imagine playing CTF with 2 different bases wand your teammates/enemies patrolling the area in-between with vehicles.


:) so fun.
 
nice thing about halo pc compared to the xbox version if im correct is that it will support 32 players instead of 16
 
They are both great games with diffrent Graphics, technology, and gameplay. I think its worth buying HALO+HL2
 
Man, I loved (and still love) Halo for the Xbox, it's really a great game. The reason I won't be buying it for the PC is because I already own it for the Xbox, heh.

Halo 2 is gonna rock!
 
I must agree that the original PC trailer was mind boggeling. The supposed team combat element, the incredible enviornments, lightning fast action.

Too bad the game blows.
 
hmm i thought they would remove the cap for 16 players for the pc version, guess not
 
There's definitely no question in my mind that Half-Life 2 will be far superior to HALO.
 
I'll buy HL2, then buy halo for 20$ once HL2 begins to wear thin. ;)
 
You might be waiting awhile until Halo comes down to $20.

Seeing how it's still $50 for Xbox, the same price that it was when it came out 2 years ago. :)

the biggest reason halo PC will fail...everyone who cares already bought an xbox to play it...or knows a friend who has it.

they only thing i wanna do is try halo with a mouse/keyboard instead of a crappy game controller...

i also would like to beat the crap out of all the console lovers i know in multiplayer...they all swear that the controller is fine and the mouse/keyboard isn't any better...ha
 
I'd like to give this leaked Halo demo a try, anyone have the Bit Torrent link for it?
 
I won't buy Halo, on any platform. Simple as that. I would rather spend my money on HL2, CoD, Empires, and plenty of other games that I actually think are good games.

Halo was fun at first, it degraded real fast once I realized how few enemies there were and that the game wasn't that fun without coop.

I do think however, that Halo will make pretty good sales because all of the newer pc gamers (noobies?) will say "Halo? Cool!" then they'll look at Half-Life 2 and be like "WTH is half-life?"

More people played the original HL then you'd think. A lot of people who aren't even big gamers even know that HL2 is coming out this year (but they're also are the ones who think online retailers have correct shipping dates).
 
Halo PC is going to get DESTROYED by HL2. Halo's MP factor is very slow, very lame, the SP is good, but not nearly as good as HL2 will be. HL2 is the biggest and best engine out to date, the AI is far superior than anything out, and the new mods and MP options are going to be out of this world. HL2 wins.
 
Well some of us already have Halo on pc.... hehe, and I have to tell you, it is fun but it aint that great. It's pretty buggy, but it was the beta. We'll see how the final version looks.

I didn't see anything in the videos as far as AI that made me think they were "far superior then anything out" at all. You mean since they followed Gordon around and talked to him?

Also, we have NO idea what Half-Life 2 MP is going to be like. We would all like to speculate that it will be completely new and innovative, but remember HL1 MP? it was LAME in my opinon. Hopefully they don't do this again.
 
I know a guy who thought he knew everything there is to know about Half-Life. I asked him if he'd seen the HL2 videos and he was like "Half-Life 2 is coming out?!?"

I think HL2 will be much better as a game, however I'm sure Halo will do pretty decent in sales.
 
Im getting Halo Homeworld 2 and Half life in the next two weeks.

but HL2 is my most looked forward to.


Halo well ive waited for 3 years cos of the bloody xbox

and homeworld 2 will be my first homeworld purchase although i like the demo.

half life 2, well i would be retarted if i didnt.
 
I would say that HALO for XBOX is easily the best FPS ever made, even surpassing the first Half-Life. I am in no way biased in this decision.

Also, HALO for PC is just downright bad. It's obvious that Gearbox didn't give a flip what they did to it. I expect Half-Life 2 to destroy HALO PC.
