And the hyienas begin to rip apart the dead corpse that is valve.

Cmon, theyre still newbies. They havent experienced the full force of true anticipation from fans until they announced HL2. Blizzard takes forever to make games, and sometimes pushes releases waaaay too far back, but they games are awesome, and no one expects them to hurry, so no one gets mad. The same thing will happen for HL2. Once it is released everyone will hail them dieties and learn to never listen to any of their release dates anymore. Valve will learn too, they wont even give a release date unitl some1 is walking in best buy and sees HL3 on the shelves. (commence mass hysteria)

I don't get it why it's vaporware. It's not like the game has been delayed for 3 years, it's only been announced for just 9 months and delayed a total of one time.
Then Doom 3 would be a more suitable candidate, we've seen that one for 2 E3's and it has been delayed 3 or more times and had about of the same amount of hype.

Just shows how much ppl care about HL2. Not exactly the best pick for the award yet it has all the attention.

TF2 is an appropriate candidate.

HL2 isn't.

But hey--anyone who can afford hosting can have a website and give whatever awards they want. Even if you can't afford it, you can write for someone else. :D

I'm surprised DNF wasn't number 1, now that really is deserving of the award.

This award sums up why I hate politics. There is no substance, just leech on to what in on the publics mind and try to get some notoriety in the process and make a name for yourself.

HL2 gets vaporware award not because it is the best candidate for such an award (for reasons stated above) but because it will cause the most comotion in doing so.

quoted from the article....
"How about a working copy of anything from Valve Software?" wrote reader C. Recicar. "Half-Life 2, Steam, Team Fortress 2 (voted for that one in 2001). These goons have been no-shows since coming out with the greatest game ever made, and I am, quite frankly, tired of waiting."

stop being a whiny bitch! Why does everyone in America and other places have to have things now. Sit back and wait a few months for the greatest game ever made to come out. Geez.. im my day we had to wait......

These people are idiots in my book. They called Fallout 1 and 2 "mutant shoot-em-ups".

word. People need to learn to spend the mean time in forums, speculating on the wonders.

Jeez people, calm down.

HL2 is vaporware - promised and promised and promised for a particular date and then it vanished without a trace. Since then, we have had NO information on it's current status. How can it not be vaporware?

Those awards were fun. Why does it mean people aren't waiting? I'm waiting for the game, but I'd be the first to admit that I have grave doubts we'll be seeing HL2 any time in the next few months.

well we didn't hear anything about HL2 until they unveiled it at E3, so secrecy isn't really a factor

HL2 is vaporware

actually i agree with you there. I think delaying a game 6 months + makes it vaporware. especially a highly anticipated one. The problem is, they are bashing valve for delaying a game to make it better. Sure, we're all anxious, but these people are taking offense at having to wait. Basically, they are whiny little babies.

fallout 2 as a mutant shoot em up? LOL

va·por·ware (vay'pr-weir)
n.
1. New software that has been announced or marketed but has not been produced
2. Products announced far in advance of any release (which may or may not actually take place). The term came from Atari users and was later applied by Infoworld to Microsoft's continuous lying about Microsoft Windows.

I don't think HL2 really fits... Sure, it fits the first one, but hell, any game fits that one, up until release date. As for the second one, they only announced it what, a year ago or so? Eh, that's not that bad. If they had announced it right after Half-Life, then only got around to releasing it now, that would be vaporware.

the whole marketed fact makes it vaporware

I say cz gets vaporware award, the game got released got reviews ect. it did just about everything a game does exept come out!

(if my post makes no since its beause it shouldent)

Yes, but you miss the point. The FIRM release date was announced, the game was marketed as coming at that point (some webpages had ADVERTISEMENTS) then suddenly - BANG - it might as well not exist anymore for all most people know or care about it. Vaporware - where's the promised product? Where's the follow up information? There is none.

Vaporware is a word that I had been thinking about the game but hadn't actually put to it until it was pointed out to me by the article.

It fits.

it's not vapourware though...... thats something that wont come out if im not mistaken.
as ffar i know hl2 will be out q2/3 2k4 ;)
