HL2 wont start, DOD will

I always try to fix the problem before I come complaining here, but for some reason I cant get this to work. Yesterday I was able to play HL2 perfectly fine. Today, when it loads the main screen, it gets stuck there. After a couple minutes it will start to stutter audio files but that does not stop. I verified my files, then reinstalled HL2 and still it happens. It is important to note that DOD works perfectly fine.

Any ideas?

Also, I have Vista Premium 32 Bit

Im about to reformat if I cant get this, mainly becuase I want to free up some space, but this is whats pushing me over
