Hi everyone. My first post here, so bare with me.

Basically, i cant get HL2 to start at all on my XP x64 machine (it has 4GB of ram, if bugs relating to that are still around).
I have tried -heapsize and other launch options, but still HL2 freezes at the loading screen (the blurry one). For some reason i can get to the menu if i use the -console launch option, but trying to start a new game causes it to freeze again. Here is a screenshot of the console readout after i get to the menu, googing for the last few days hasn't helped me, so ive decided to post.

This is the normal Half-Life 2 from the orange box.

Thanks in advance for any help.

first off.. hi, welcome to the forums.. second, your post needs to be moved to help desk.. third, we have to ask if this is a pirated copy of orange box.. if not good yay.. we can try to help.. it might help to know more about your system ( specifically your graphics card.. it seems to be the issue, since it freezes when any 3d graphics are presented )

hi kacation, sorry, didnt see the helpdesk forum.

No, it's not a pirated version of orange box, brought it off the shelf and it's registered and updated with steam etc. And i shouldn't be having problem with system performance, maybe its a compatibility issue? Like i said before, im running XP x64 edition, with 4GB of G.Skill DDR2-1000 ram. Forgot to mention that i have a 4850 graphics card.. which can run portal and HL2 Deathmatch fine.

This is something that's started happening recently. I'm getting it as well, when two weeks ago everything worked fine in 64 bit mode. Try putting "-32bit" in the launch options, it worked for me and there's no real advantage to running it in 64-bit mode anyway.

the it does sound like a 64 bit compatibility issue.. with that setup you'll zip right through half life 2 in 32 bit anyway... the game is from 2004 for gods sake :/

try that and if it works have fun :D

Valve doesn't seem interested in 64-bit anymore.
