HL2DM dedicated server question

Hi,
One of my friends can run a source dedicated server of hl2dm (Half Life 2 Deathmatch) and join that dedicated that he is running at the same time. He can run the server and deathmatch on the same account but when i do it i am unable to connect to my server. I can see it on the server lists but can't connect to it. Even if i do connect SERVERSIP into the console it times out tring to connect.

So, how do you run your own dedicated server and join it?

Any help will be much appreciated,

The point of a dedicated server is you can't join it.

I join my own dedicated server =D

He meant on the same machine. It helps if you don't use steam for dedicated server and use the real thing.

i got it working. i started the dedicated server, and then i sstarted dm. then used the console in dm to connect to the internal IP of the server because the server list attempts the connect to the external IP of the server which apparently isn't possible in my situations.

so....prob solved

on the dedicated server options how do i make the game a team deathmatch? i cant see an option to change it. Is there a console command to change it?
