HL2DM Vs CS

People are getting agitated over lack of HL2DM. Now, CS has around 20,000 servers.

HLDM currently has this much.

Can you see their reasoning?

But a better example would be HLDM when it first came out. Obviously it's not popular now...but with everything new in HL2..who knows.

But I do agree the reasoning ...CS is THE online game and has been for a while, so why not do what is popular.

Well to be honest I didn't think 6 years ago we'd have to take a screenie of a HLDM server list :)

Of course, it was the most popular one because of the lack of anything else. When TFC came along, popularity split in half, and then CS, DoD, NS and numerous others killed it.

To be honest, with all the promised mod potential for this game, there's no reason why a team can't make one.

I mean the Sven Co-Op team will probably be doing most of it for their own mod. Maybe convert some of it, gives it some maps and say "Sven HL2DM!"

please take a minute and read this thread and this thread and if u can, try to address some of the points made by the pple who wanted a HL2 themed MP.

get over it.

takes a long time to make MP

really

really really

they spent the time on SP.

reviews show - SP == r0x0r.

hence, time was not wasted.

go play a less good game with MP included if it bothers u.

EDIT there u go, points addressed.

I cant remember all the information on expansion packs,
but if they get Gearbox software to do an expansion again, then maybe they will also make a deathmatch seen as they did an Opposing Force Deathmatch. However by then lots of deathmatch mods will have been made by the community.

You are ignoring the point that HL1DM was written for 1999 technology and dial-up connections. The game engine and texturing themselfs have not been updated in 3-4 years. CS has been consistently updated from 1.1, 1.3, 1.5 1.6 etc.

With the Source engine and some mutators it would rock.

Why are people defending this flawed decision? Some with such audacity that it makes you wonder if Valve has a few people here on the forums that beat up anyone who says anything negative about Valve or its decisions.

We're defending it because, although we don't necessarily like, or play CS, there are far fewer people who play straight DM any more. Look at UT2k4 (NOT a 1999 game) -- most popular mode is NOT DM. Guess why? Cus DM isn't that much fun for most people.

Unlikely since there seems to be a problem between Valve and Gearbox whats also the reason blue shift is not avaieble on steam.

i dont want hl1 mp
i dont want a remake of a hl mod mp

Doesn't clear up anything.
Almost every game has a DM option, whay would they still stick to a 5 year old game what had no updates in the DM section?
Besides Valve found DM important enough to release another DM classic for HL.

Ofcourse Mods can make HL2 dm mods, but it will not have the same quality.

And DM is a nice option for lan games or local games at home with a friend.

Even if HL2 had DM I would probebly not play it, but I am tired with CS too. And remember there are still more players not liking cs thn there are playing it.
Why is it so bad to expect something new, especially when Valve mentioned before HL multiplay would be something special.
(I thought they were gonna add TF2 by that statement)

Well, i think that this is the best post ever made on the subject...

sums my thoughts up perfectly

Well, personally my money is on the Sven Coop team as they will be building their mod (originally it was based on HL1 anyway). Like I said a few alterations, they could market it as their own.

Here's some tough love...

That was a bogus post. I'm on my last shred of hope now myself. There's a good chance I'm not "buying" HL2 until there is a DM game, so they better hurry!

hey, just because the numbers of DM aren't comparable to those of CS/CS:Source does not mean HL2's DM isn't worth making.

everytime someone here makes a post on how Valve kinda messed up on not having a HL2 themed MP, theres 10 pple jumping all over said person.. point is, there is a big enough crowd out which was dying for Valve to reveal this MP but got disappointed by CS:Source being the MP.

i believe the technology of the source engine and better overall gameplay of DM in source would not only revamp interest in the area, but also attract alot of gamers... and mind u, i am not the only one who believes this.
