i am getting doom 3, but i am afraid that i wont be able to sleep after playing it, after seeing the resident evil movie, i was scared to sleep kinda bad for about 5 days, then it was minor, do u think my weak 13 year old mind wont be able to stand doom 3?

Doom 3 wasn't scary at all for me. It made me jump 6 times throughout the entire game, but I never once felt afraid.

Boo id!

..it was a great game though. Just wish it had scared me

I agree, except the great game part, I'd say it was average, not great :)

Its less fright and more tension and waiting really. you can easily predict the enemies and such after a short while. "I'll get this armor and then turn to the side and kill the monster that will appear there" and thats what happens almost all the time.

I jumped twice, but never bothered to finish it, and it was jumps of startlement. consider I jump on average twice just about every game of counter-strike, and you see the problems here...

I jumped all the ****in' time... didn't bother to finish the game either, though... :|

Doom 3 doesn't really get you into that "I'd probably have a panic attack if I went out into the woods at 1:30 AM now" feeling, though...

The Resident Evil movie scared you? :| Then I suggest you don't play this game, because it will scare the shit out of you. It scared me, and I thought the Resident Evil movie was horrible.

I can't believe you guys didn't finish it, was it because you were afraid?... heh

Seriously the last levels are very good, and the Cyberdemon is something you have to see.

Depends how susceptible you'll be to it. It is scary though, If your worried, play it during the day and then watch a comedy or play a different kind of game after. Shouldn't have too many nightmares then.

The problem with it was I never felt it built up any tension. There was always an enemy just around the corner, and you knew it before going into a room so you could prepare. There wasn't any slow build up. By the end I'd killed so many Imp's and other monsters that they had no affect on my what-so-ever.

the only reason you would play doom 3 is to be scared and if you don't want to be scared, don't bother

and i didn't finish the game cause it sucked ;)

doom 3 is just scary because the "chock" effect. monsters popping up from nowhere. otherwise its not anymore scary then halflife

well,i aint getting it, i will be WAY to scared to sleep, and i need to go to sleep early to go to school :P

Go on, buy it. Play it with a high brigtness and low detail.

If it will seriously give you nightmares and/or make it difficult to sleep than I would suggest not playing it. When I was your age I was pretty sensative to violent movies and I'm very glad my parents didn't allow me to watch very many of them. If violence in games or on TV later affects you emotionally I really see no reason to subject yourself to that. There's no harm in waiting a while. I know I outgrew it eventually and now it doesn't bother me at all.

FFS it's only a game man - just keep telling yourself "NOT REAL NOT REAL NOT REAL". In any case, how can Doom 3 actually scare you? I've jumped like 3 times so far. And, for the record, the Resident Evil movie was a travesty (i'm sure anyone who has actually played the games/is a fan of the series will agree with me on that one).

Due to the fact that I played through the game on hard mode, usually in the small hours, with loud headphones, I actually found quite a bit of it frightening. Worst were those tentacle things that ran at you, and whipped you with their arm. Bloody hell, they always made my heart beat faster.
Agreed, it's mostly just shock scares, but there were parts of the game that made me genuinely uncomfortable. Like the first time you saw the 'growth' in the little room with a pda. Sitting in that room made me feel really afraid, for some odd reason. Come to think of it, the meat-growth stuff made me feel uncomfortable throughout the game.
I thought it was a fantastic game though, but I'm a long-term Doom fan.
