I can't beleive anyone would hate this! I just decided to buy their package. If I would have bought it anywhere else, I would have waited for a week before playing, I would have payed $5 of shipping, I would have to go through long installations and sloppy CDs.

But here, I enter a bunch of numbers and stuff, and LITTERALLY 5 SECONDS AFTER I CLICK PURCHASE I GET: "you may now play Half Life 1 from you games list."

OMG WTF HAX> THIS IS SO PRACTICAL ONEONEONE

Gonna go play now.

woohoo! that is great for you...so much innocence that is to be wasted on the steam monster

Can you guys help me figure this out? there is no way it took 5 seconds to download HL1, CS, TFC, Opposing Force and some other thing. Were they already on the computer?

Most likely they were and all you did was register them. However, steam does have an amazing download speed so it wouldn't take much longer to dl them.

well it took a little longer for me, but about the same maybe not...i guess that i didnt get the games yet...DAMN IT!

have you tried to play them, ie click on "new game" and actually play ?

Yeah of course.

I can't beleive how much fun HL1 still is. I get frustrated sometimes when I can't pick up stuff, but it's still a lot of fun.

You move sooo fast though. (Do you think it's a bug because my computer is too fast? I'm running light speed.)

I'm really looking forward to Black Mesa source.

Fast eh?

Try this in single player.. jump only with your strafe keys and move your mouse in a figure of eight :D

lol you forgot the part where you time your jumps with godly precision

You could have bought HL1 in a store. :)

Steam sucks and I hate it a lot. It is indeed my computer, yet Valve doesn't think so. Steam also made me quit mapping because it was so goddamn tedious to go through friggin Steam. :D

how is this steams fault that ur comp. sux?

Basicly it downloads the first few levels of the game , then as you play it donwloads the rest of the levels, sounds, music, ect in chronological order.

It would've been the most awesome idea if it weren't infested with so many bugs it was a hive and if they're interfaces for HL1 games weren't so hideous.

(Does anyone know how I can restore the old fashioned menus for HL1(With the Hazard Course right there on the menu), Team Fortress and OpFor (With the animation on the background?) before I registered them on Steam? The Steam versions just look so generic like a bad Hong Kong bootleg movie!)

So what do I do? Uninstall it from Steam and install them back using the CDs?

But I won't be able to use multiplayer right? Since I'll have to use Steam to get through that.

I love the "it's infested with bugs" yet no mention of bugs, except teeny greivances with how a menu is laid out.

True story, if you can't get steam to work. You suck with maintaining a PC or your PC sucks.

Just install HL from your HL1 cd's...thats it..
and
correct no mp for your just because you hate the startup user interface.

I run a flawless 3.2 ghz gigaram and x800 equipped system which I built myself. Other than the proggy which is the subject of this topic I rarely encounter any grievances. But from day one since Steam was instated on my as well as every computer I've played on....

1. Friend's list doesn't work.
2. Constantly get booted with a message saying my Steam ticket had expired and requesting me to re-enter my password which doesn't work. I have to ask them to send me it through the "I forgot my password" option to get it running again.
3. Refreshing the favorites list never works. (Well at least refreshing doesn't crash my comp like it did with WON.)
4. Update history for some reason is still stuck at 2004.
5. Somehow deletes mods and skins I add in after updates although I suppose this isn't all Steam's fault since they are only the middleman in a crowd of people. This is also is okay since I always have them backed up.
6. Having to connect everytime you play a single player game which isn't that bad anymore other than the router and IP problems but was a bitch when I still ran 56k.

I suggest you take back your words and suck on them! To believe Valve is actually trying to sell a program which seemingly never got past beta? It's a great idea and it is fast but you know that old proverb about good intentsions.

I guess my old sig stated it best:

BLOW OFF STEAM!

Anyone ever mod in different interfaces?

I've always loved steam except like 3 years ago when it was way more buggy. It's fine now, i just take it as given that Friends doesn't work.

1: Freinds, yes that does indeed suck and they are fixing it.

2: Got router? And notice you're the only person who is getting this error with the password getting changed(I would seriously consider checking your system for trojans)

3: Got router again?

4: Oh noes! This is the worst bug ever, all my steam games are now dead because of this

5: You answered that yourself.

6: That's nto a bug, that's design.

Is that all? Like I said, can't work your own PC.

Four may not look horrible but it looks unprofessional for a product one tries to sell.

I like steam, but I prefer buying the games in the boxes with the CDs and all that just so that I have a physical item to add to my collection. For some reason, I'm just not content if I am without something so trivial as a box with art on it. I was so pissed that my used copy of Half-Life 1 for PS2 didnt have the instruction manual in it. Not because I needed it, but because I wanted it for the item to be complete. Anyone know what I mean?

Umm yeah... im a 56ker...and I have no problems getting on steam and playing a singleplayer game.. maybe you just had a horrible isp...

Don't blame valve, blame the publisher.
It's either Sierra or Vivendi's fault in that.
I simply can't remember when Vivendi bought Sierra compared to when Decay came out.

as a 56ker that happens to me if I disconnect from the net and then try and play a game, maybe try disabling and reenabling your lan card, or restarting\logging off(and back on)

i'm not blaming valve, or sierra, or vivendi. i'm blaming the loser who had the game before i did and lost the insert. it was probably some dumb little kid with no respect for their own property.

I don't have to go online to play singleplayer, can't you jsut have Steam in off-line mode?
