Senior year and I still don't really know what i'm going to do out of school D:

School councilor was telling me I should go to a mainland community or state college to gain residency and burn off my shitty highschool grades, then move to an actual college that offers a major i'm interested in.

And I have no idea what i'm interested...

HALP ME!!!

what are your lifelong interests and what are your recent interests?

if only you can get into a career field of interest

Look up the courses and see what piques your interest. :|

We can't decide what you're interested in.

become a erotic lumberjack,I order you!

Definitely take a gap year; it will help you gain perspective, get some work experience and develop some funds to use if and when you choose to attend university.

It's nothing to be worried about. Lots of people don't know what they want to do after school. There are also plenty out there that think they do, but realise it might not be later on down the track.

If you really don't know what to do, take a gap year.

Also if you know very vaugely, say some kind of biology, then you could go for a Uni which does faculty-based degrees: very easy to change degree within the faculty until the last year or two.

I'm taking a gap decade. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm half way in already.

does gap year = delay going to school for year while you bum around doing nothing/get a shitty job washing dishes?

take the jr college thingy, it'll help you decide where to go academically

Can be, or you can actually do something.

I got a job with the civil service for 6 months then went travelling.

I'm a sophomore in uni and I don't know either. I have to declare a major by the end of this school year and I'm totally clueless D:

Unless something changes, I'm thinking about taking a semester or year off of uni and getting together funds for some real traveling.

civil service = missionary work?

...there's nothing wrong with it so long as you actually accomplish something (like you did) ...most people do not (myself included)

You don't have a to ****ing know. Go to a less-fancy college and build up a decent transcript than transfer to a nice place where you can be surrounded by passionate people and go from there.

hehe, nah working for the health service, doing clerical work.

Oh btw you should all do Biology. You get to mess with genes and play god and shit lolol.

No wai! Doesn't let you create Triffids.

Go to a community college, don't take a gap year.

I had no clue what I was getting into out of high school, went to community college with a general studies major, decided I wanted to be a pilot, and now I'm on my 2nd year of a private school learning to fly. It's awesome.

The thing is, even if I knew where I was going, my grades are shit, and I don't know how the whole "community college on the mainland" thing will work out. I have a very bad feeling that i'll end up just going community college, finishing 2 years there, and then just fizzling out...

Community colleges are piss easy. I was doing dual-enrollment between my high school and a local community college on my senior year and they're basically a cakewalk. Honestly, just actually put some effort into your academics. It's not too late to get yourself into a decent school. Just try to give a damn about your academics and get the grades you need to transfer to a better Uni.

If you keep slacking off then you're going to end up regretting this down the line.

Community colleges in general are easier than high school. Just put forth the effort.
Or don't, I did probably 1/10th of my assignments in community college and had a 3.5 GPA. Never studied outside of class. That built bad habits that kicked my ass when I went to a real school. So try to study and develop the necessary skills in a non-punishing environment, like a community college.
