Ok, so I was trying to install a game (NFS:UG2), and it wouldn't install. Apparently the disc was too scratched for a file to be copied, so I tried cleaning it like 20 times with a cloth to clean it, but to no success. So in one last attempt I purposely made it dirty with finger oils, I rubbed the hell out of it with ALL my fingers.

Guess what?

IT WORKS NOW.

WTF.

I normally wouldn't say anything, but in the past I've done this EXACT SAME THING with Zoo Tycoon 2, Alien vs Predator 2, and many others. I HAVE to be magic.

When this game is done installing I'm burning the install folder to a disc, so this problem doesn't repeat, but doesn't anyone else find this amazing?!

We're all just a series of 1's and 0's really, and when we rub off our oils onto the disc, we're adding our own DNA Binary Sequencing code to it, patching up any problems.

Ah yes, so simple, why didn't I think!

(of that)

So if I put my blood on a CD I can make a clone of myself?

sorry, i was distracted by your av, what did you do?:dozey:

We're quaternary fool :P

Sounds like your disc needs resurfacing.

My guess:
Scratched clean disc : Laser refracts unpredictably through the scratch, causing unreadable data.
Scratched oily disc : Oils fill in scratches, causing less refraction and proper reading (enough that error correction can handle the rest)

When a CD started skipping or wouldn't play, I had a friend that would pop out the disc, lick it throughly with his tongue fiercely, and throw it back in the deck. Worked everytime. :rolling:

5 second fix.

I started using water, a mild detergent and a soft cloth to dry it and it works really well. - but if that doesn't work, I'll just smear shit all over it, like you did. :)
