Holy Terror Batman

"Holy Terror, Batman!" an upcoming graphic novel from famed Batman writer Frank Miller, sees the caped crusader facing off against Al-Qaeda operatives who attack Gotham City.

Miller, who has already inked his way through 120 pages of the 200-page opus, told a recent comic book convention that the novel was an unashamed "piece of propaganda" in which Batman "kicks Al-Qaeda's ass.

Miller said the use of comic book heroes for propaganda had an honourable tradition.

"Superman punched out Hitler. So did Captain America. That's one of the things they're there for," he said."

maybe after he's done with osama Batman can try using the bat-computer to track down saddam's wmd. Or just put a mask on cheney and send him to iraq as the Shotgun Avenger

Sounds cool, can't wait till it's released.

LOL - this sounds ace, looking forward to it!

Holy ****..
why?
Batman has to me always been about personal/social/psychological issues and conflicts...
I call this an abuse of the Batman canon.. leave this sort of propaganda to Superman stories

"These are our folk heroes," he added. "It just seems silly to chase around the Riddler when you've got Al-Qaeda out there."
ROFL !
I'd definatly want to read that :p

Not surprising, given what was said about our "heroes" fighting old enemies like Hitler. Propaganda isn't viewed in the same light now as it was in the 40s, though. Anyway, who needs propaganda when you have the fear of further terrorist attacks to control your people?

im all for hunting down terrorists and stuff...but i dunno about this.
how about just sticking to regular old criminals just to be safe?

Good thing he probably won't touch down on the grim realities of beheadings and stuff.

you'd have to ply him with alcohol first ...which shouldnt be a problem

btw was that an attempt at saying "hey your side are screwups too!"? ..didnt faze me in the least because I'm non partisan

Anybody ever see those immensely cool Disney cartoons on how Donald Duck etc beat the Nazi's?

1 i remember especially which stated: "giving your money to the state to support the war was the right thing to do, spending it on nonsense and luxury was supporting hitler".. :p
Fun how Donald duck choses to support USA and the hitler says "come and buy these nice things"
Finally donald kicks him out the nazi-door.

There's even one where Donald Duck dresses up like a nazi! Hilarious!
And Goofy blowing up Japs too! :borg:

Is this the guy who did Watchmen? I don't remember :/

yes Frank Millar of Sin city and the Dark Knight (best superhero comic ever written)

Alan Moore did the watchmen btw

I never saw the watchmen as a superhero comic ..more of a drama where the main characters wore uniforms

superheros comics tend to be far more one dimensional ..and this coming from someone who read superhero comics for a big chunck of his life

Speaking of which, CptStern ... who is that Avatar you ... have in your avatar icon thingy ...?

OH MY ****ING GAWD HOW COULD I HAVE FORGOTTEN THAT. I WIN TEH AFTERNOON PRIZE!!

I can't believe I ... jesus. I'm forgetting Heavy Metal characters.

I've had the same or similiar avatar since I joined ..I thought everyone knew it was Cpt Sternn

That's old superhero comics. This is the new age. Ever since the late 70s, Superhero's became complex characters, Batman in particular. O'Neil, Miller, Loeb, Moore, they all made Batman and the Villains incredibly interesting characters.

Watchmen brought the superhero genre to its knees, cocked slapped it, then lit it on fire...then burst out of the ashes like a phoenix. Without Watchmen or Dark Knight Returns, I don't even want to imagine what comic books would be like.

Watchmen is absolutely amazing. Best comic I've ever read.

Man, I've been meaning to read Sandman forever. I absolutely loved American Gods, and I've heard such amazing things... :frown:

Ha! Yeah, I downloaded this years ago and its fargin great! One of my favorite DD cartoons ever! Good to see this sort of things isn't totally dead. Well, I think its a good thing, but we'll see what its used for now. :(

Heh, I saw Frank Miller at Wondercon at SF. He was signing stuff, and my friend got her Batman: Year One signed. :D

I just want to complete my collection of Sandman stuff... Neil Gaiman came round to Sydney (he was in my local bookstore!) but this was, unfortunantly, before I got into Sandman.
