Reading the opinions about underrated games in a recent thread, and seeing unknown and obscure titles, I'd like to use this thread to have a list of all those underrated games that you think deserve to be played.
Please, contribute.

Well just a tip be careful when it comes to abandonware, alot of it is illegal due to retarded copyright laws, for example you can count on pretty any game published by EA to be illegal to download if it's labeled as 'Abandonware' because usually they still own copyrights and refuses to release it as freeware.

I am not necessarily talking about abandonware. I mean unknown games that deserve to be played. Absinthe mentioned a Startopia that was unknown to me. My goal is to have a list of such underrated but good games.

Oh, I figured since the name of the topic was that of probably the most well-known abandonware site ever it was gonna contain abandonware.. My bad :p

Don't think that this is an obsession, since I mention it quite often in recent posts, but I start the list with:

Penumbra: Overture
Penumbra: Black Plague

Yeah the Penumbra games are great, if not for the awesome gameplay then for the simple fact the guys behind them are Swedish.

Project: Nomad
In Cold Blood
Beneath A Steel Sky (unknown nowadays)
Shogo: MAD
Castle of the Winds (freeware now)
Wasteland
Theme Hospital
StarLancer
Master of Orion 2

Beneath A Steel Sky isn't unknown to me but that's only because most of the games I play are 'abandonware' because that era of gaming was superior to modern gaming imo.

Beneath A Steel Sky is one of the best games ever IMO.

Giants : Citizen Kabuto, fantastic FPS/RTS... hilarious too, unfortunately it suffered from a very buggy release and no one really gave it a chance, but most of the bugs were ironed out a while after it was out.
Has 3 distinct races... Meccs, Reavers, and Kabuto.
The Meccs are basically your run of the mill jet-packing aliens with big guns and gadgets.
The Reavers are a spell-casting race that are almost like Mermaids minus the fins and fishtails.
Kabuto is basically this giant monster that can eat everything and is very hard to kill.

Rune, basically a third-person melee action game with Viking lore... it was insanely gory for its time and still is, you can hack off limbs and all.
The multiplayer was and still is damn fun.

Those two basically flew under the radar for most and I think they deserved a lot more recognition than they got.

edit : One more game...
Kingpin: Life of Crime, probably one of the best gangster FPSes ever made.
It was ultra violent with incredibly vulgar language and the atmosphere on the whole was very dark and gritty, felt like a mob movie at times.
It had locational damage and you could form gangs and everything.

Two Wii games - Kororinpa and Lost Winds. Neither could exist on any other platform and both are utterly charming.
