I recently purchased a digital video camcorder (a Sony Digital Video Recorder), and it had a USB adapter on it- so I used Windows Movie Maker. I saved the movie as a .wmv file and put it on to a DVD+R disc, however, I can't get it to play in my DVD player.

I don't really have that much cash to spare as this video camera costed me round $100 and the DVD player another $60 - so buying new software is out of the question. This Dazzle program that came with the camcorder does not work right on Windows XP. I was wondering if there is any open source programs that can allow me to burn my own DVDs?

I do have a MPG video maker (bbMpeg v1.24 beta 13) and of course Windows Movie Maker. Both these apps work great. A friend of mine also suggested I download this program called IFO Edit and VOB Edit, but he said that when he tried these programs he was able to make a DVD but it was dropping frames like flys.

Any suggestions? Or should I RMA the DV Recorder or DVD Player?

N/M the above post - it's too late to edit the post or delete it so mods could you please delete it.

Figured out how to convert it to DVD - did a sample w/ a short vid clip and first time I had a space in the DVD name so it crashed out and the second time I used one word and it worked fine. Now I am converting a 13.6 GB .avi (56 min) to a M2V / MP2 file... and it's bout half done got 1hr 57min left. Usin my Notebook to submit this message not to disturb the conversion process.

Found a good website tutorial on how to make DVDs, and using Windows Movie Maker, bbMpeg, TMpegEnc, and an UPDATED version of IFO Edit, along with Nero 6 Ultra Edition (only actual program that I purchased a while back ago for $100)...
