didn't see a proper thread on this game so here we goooo

"Homefront is an upcoming first-person shooter video game developed by Kaos Studios and published by THQ. It is scheduled to be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows in March 2011. Homefront is set in a near future America in 2027 when a now-nuclear armed Korean People's Army invades the USA. The game is written by John Milius, who co-wrote Apocalypse Now and wrote Red Dawn."

not sure which engine they're using but I think it looks great
they're doing a proper PC version as well, no crappy port:

"the executive producer of the PC version has stated that the PC version of the game will feature exclusive content and dedicated servers. Additional exclusive features include clan support, DirectX 11 graphics, and first person vehicle cockpits.[10][11] It has also been confirmed that Homefront will be released on Steam."

These dudes made the Desert Combat mod for BF1942. Which was very good. These are also the dudes that made Frontlines: Fuel of War. Which was a great concept but didn't work out that well imo. Still looking forward to this though. Hopefully the PC version will have a couple of big ass vehicle focused multiplayer maps.

Frontlines: Fuel of War had a terribly boring single-player and an OK MP, so I'm not gonna go and get my hopes up.

I was just about to make a thread about this last night. Looks like it could be very visualizing on a high end PC system.

Also co-written by John Milius? Apocalypse Now and Red Dawn are two of my favorite movies. I'll definitely be watching this one.

I'm sold.

The trailer looked okay when I first watched it, but games such as these have a tendency to be such a big let down, so I'm not going to get too excited.

looks a little too familiar right now.

well they're claiming that they're doing something different with the genre so let's hope they make good on that

They made alot of claims during Frontlines development too.

I have no idea why, but seeing a view from inside on the the APCs and seeing the photos of the soldier's family taped the the bottom of the windscreen made me smile.

Frontlines was kind of horrible, so I have no expectations for this.

Is it just me or does that map look extremely similar to certain sections of Modern Warfare 2? Just replace the russians with koreans.

Yeah, it does strike a resemblance to the MW2 U.S. missions. From the looks so far, seems like Brink will be getting my dollar votes over this.

I like the idea of the single player aspect of the game. I detest multiplayer games though and it sounds like this is emphasizing multi. I haven't bought an FPS in probably two years and this is the first in that time that has sounded even slightly interesting to me. Desert Combat was one of my favorite mods, but I haven't played anything else by these guys. I'll keep tabs on its single player and might actually get it if it reviews well.

its got a really interesting concept behind it but nothing else that really makes it stand out. I'll keep an eye on it nonetheless

dont see why it would make americans angry since the scenario is just so ridiculously unplausible. N korea sneaks in and wtfpwns the US? they can barely menace south korea much less invade the US. also where's nato in all this? the rest of the global community is going to take this sort of thing lying down? they'd be a smouldering crater before the first invasion force left korean shores. looks like a fun game but lets not get carried away here kotaku

/\ half of what you just said can be applied to mw2's ridiculous plot actually

According to the trailer you posted North-Korea (or Greater Korea as it is called iirc) only invades the US after it has conquered most of East Asia. First North and South Korea unite, then there is some sort of Anschluss with Japan and after that the trailer sorta suggests that all the rest of Asia falls. China seems to be totally absent and like you wrote NATO isn't playing any role either. Weird story. I really only care for the multiplayer myself.

It would have made a lot more sense to have the Koreans be Chinese.

Basically same as Crysis, actually IIRC in Crysis the enemies were originally Chinese in the original script drafts, but they were pressured to change them to Korean because EA didn't want to risk alienating the Chinese gaming community or something like that.

Bump, its now available for preorder on Steam $49.99. Still not sure if I am going to get it. Will definitely be one of those games where I wait to see how it is before I purchase.

Same here. I have got high hopes, especially for the multiplayer, but I am still on the fence.

Interested to see it, will buy and play. I just really like the Red Dawn style story: COMMUNISTS/FASCISTS/ASIANS/RUSSKIES/NAZIS/GENERALLY BAD DUDES WHO AREN'T WESTERN WHITE PEOPLE invade the USA and America goes all hardcore patriotic and actually uses its overabundance of firearms for something.

I don't have much assurance it will be a good game though, everything I've seen so far seems to indicate it could go either way.

According to the dev trailer, there will be americans betraying the rebels and side with north koreans. So not much all that Americanas rise up and be patriotic macho bullshit.

Who cares about the singleplayer. This game is made by the dudes who made the Desert Combat mod for BF:1942. If anything, the campaign will be the backdrop (or excuse if you will) for the multiplayer setting.

me too as someone who just doesn't care about most mp games (except battlefield it seems)

People, like me, who only play singleplayer games.

Then go play those kind of games. :)

Seriously though, I am guessing that the singleplayer portion of this game will be about as significant as Bad Company 2's campaign was.

Or as significant as Frontlines single-player portion was.

Feels like a more appropriate comparison since Frontlines was made by the same team.

And honestly, Frontlines MP wasn't that great so I'm not sure what to expect from this.

Holy ****, that changes everything re: my expectations of this game. My hype meter just went from "Sure, sounds cool" to "**** YES PLEASE"

Wait, it was made by the guys who did Desert Combat? That was my FAVORITE mod for BF1942. I might actually pick this up now!

WOW WHAT A STUNNING REVELATION oh wait he already mentioned that in the second post of the thread. :v

If it's anything like Frontlines: Fuel of War, it'll be just another dried up, broken turd. Also, don't be surprised if they drop supporting the game after a patch or two.
