theres alot of serious developement into the FPS genre at the moment, so why havnt we heard much about anyone capitalising on the Space battle stratergies? which could be developed into something overwhelmingly good.

For instance, I was reminded of Homeworld 2 the other week as I watched the new Battlestar Gallactica, which had Homeworld style battles with the Gallactica firing flak cannons, at the enemy (widescreen shot of the tracer flak), and then exploding in similar style in the distance, it was uncany, with the sounds too. I would really be blown away by a game that could deliver that,

so Basically I think if anyone could get the rights, the new Battlestar Gallactica movie would be a great Space Strategy game executed film/ Homeworld style.

Yeah...I remember someone started a homeworld mod actually which was based on the original battlestar galactica but it never got very far.

I hope more games like that come out because nothing has really compared to homeworld.

I know, Id like too see more competition and effort in the Space Strategy genere, I know there capable of so much more

Come to think of it my brother still has my copy of HW2, which i payed for. Anyway hopefully some fun mods will come out for the game, it would be better to get an actual real game but mods will keep me going at least for a while.

man, I wish I could make a game, :P, id be up for the task, and ive got some real strong image of what it would be like, it would be like homeworld next gen, with a more realistic heavier feel to the ships, generally more like a simulation of a real interactive space battle thats based on what ive seen in the movie

My HL2 mod was suppose to be something like homeworld, with a starwars spoof design (ie lowpoly ships without textures. Kind of like tiefighter when I think of it :p)
Got mothballed due to the delay though, dont know if I ever will take it up again...

agreed.

Ive been disapointed at what little has been done in this area.... other than the HW series.

And even they seem to lack depth.

I want to be able to put my ships together from the hull up....researching hundreds of technologys....

...be able to build anything from a probe to "deathstar" type ship, customising as little or as much as i want.

...i want more than basic generic missions.

I want to be able to do anything from have massive fleet battles, assualts on planets and patroling in my destroyer to being able to run around in my pirate ship cuasing trouble.

/me dreams ;(

There's a video game of BG, designs are closer to the original and the other attempt at a remake that was squashed by sci-fi's version (wasn't the Hatch one though, he was kept out of it)

what you just described sounded more like EVE online or X2 (if thats what i think it is) than a RTS.

Canadian game developers know what they are doing. Relic did a good job with Homeworld.

Nexus seems promising. Because they changed the name, we can also see a imperium galatica3 (with all the traditions of the other two, and lot more goodies)
