Yuck. You would never get me in there :monkee::x:monkee:
In a world-first the zoo will have an enclosure housing people as part of a program to demonstrate humans are part of the animal kingdom.
Four groups of six people will be chosen to participate in the month-long project, each group staying in the enclosure for a week.
Vets will check their health and they will be given behavioural stimulation devices such as puzzles and exercise equipment.
They will be fed like the zoo's other great apes, with some food being hidden to encourage their foraging skills.
While the program has a scientific basis it also owes some inspiration to reality shows such as Big Brother. Each weekend a celebrity "zooloper" will join the group, usually a sports star who will bring in sporting equipment for stimulation.
The public will also be able to vote for their favourite exhibit, with the human with the highest number of votes at the end of each week getting a prize. The $2 cost of the SMS to vote will go towards conservation projects.
"We will be running a scientific program to see how groups of people interact the same as we would look at a group of great apes.
"This is about science, education and also some fun."
