To use your computer monitor for the 360 display, you need to buy a microsoft VGA cable. That will allow you to plug your monitor to your xbox 360, and it also has a cable for audio which you can plug your computer speakers into. I needed to buy a double female adapter though, since my speakers and the cable for the xbox sound are both males. That adapter cost me 2 bucks.

what about consoles like wii or ps3?

Sorry, I don't know the answer to that. I assume since Sony is headed by a bunch of pricks, they don't include a similar interface. Nintendo... no idea.

to attach my Ps2 to my PC to play through my monitor I needed to buy a Compro Videomate TV-Tuner.

They get damned hot VERY quickly though, and after a short period I am sure I saw the FPS output slowing. If you can find a better TV-Tuner solution (though I got a USB one, you can get a PCI-E one) then get it.

psh the resolution is so low on the ps2 it was so hard to play on my monitor.

Yeah, most consoles will be blurry to the point that it's pointless playing on your monitor, since it doesn't make the game any sharper.

for Guitar Hero 2, it seemed to blur it out nicely. the background looked slightly out of focus, and the fret board looked pretty much in focus.

360 games on my pc monitor look far better than on my crt tv, there's a big difference

what do you hook it up by? cablewise

if i could get a s-video cable for my ps2 then it would play much better.

Is there a cheaper [third-party] cable available to use with a 360 and a TFT (DVI connection)?

I never buy third-party accessories but I'm tempted this time as I know I won't use this cable often and converting the Newegg price to $AU it will cost me $40. :(

I need a female to female adapter for my VGA cable to my monitor VGA cable, no clue where to get one.

Is it possible to use the pc monitor for both PC and PS3? or do I have to connect/disconnect in order to use one?

Depends on the cables. You can use DVI to connect your monitor to your PC's video card, and use the VGA slot for the PS3 - if that supports it. Most monitors, I think, have an option in the menu thing you bring up to switch between either input. This is what I'll be doing with my 360 once I get a DVI cable, runs pretty well (except for the lack of 16:10 resolutions, but that's hardly noticeable).
