There is talk {read - rumors} that Joss Whedon could bring back the Firefly 'verse back to the small screen...

See News Story

I'm running out of my Firefly fix...

Erm...right, it's basically a load of people with conflicting personalities stuck on a spaceship together and doing mercenary-style jobs all over the glaxay ('verse') while sheltering two fugitives. The setting is pretty much the American wild west - post civil war and all - but in space. It's all about trying to achieve freedom and do your own thing, and it's rather good. You should download it or buy the boxset or something.

Can't say I'm a big fan of Firefly series; my brother loves it though. It seems theres a large internet community of Firefly fans. Wasn't they supposed to make more movies or something?

Well we're hoping they will, thus this thread. And the Firefly/Serenity community is massive.

OMG!

I sure as hell hope so. I am pissed that serenity was the last movie. People suck and don't realise a good movie when they see it. Instead of a great sci fi movie they go see some POS movie about basketball or gay cowboys. Serenity > all.

Firefly/Serenity kicked ass. The latter moreso, ****in' top-banana if it comes back on

I'm a huge Firefly fan. I don't believe the rumors, but one can hope! Please bring back our beloved Firefly.

OH PLEASE GOD LET IT BE TRUE
im a fanatic

My eyes gleamed when they read the article, like a boy in a candy shop...

Has anybody read the Comics? Are they worth trying to find them?

Dark Horse was going to release a trade paperback (bound collection) of all three of the comics, but I don't know if its come out yet.

"And I think maybe you're gonna give me a little one-on-one time with the missus."

"Oh, I think you might wanna reconsider that last part. See, I married me a powerful ugly creature."

"How can you say that? How can you shame me in front of new people?"

"If I could make you purtier, I would."

"You are not the man I met a year ago."

Wow. Some preeetty big fans here. I've actually never seen it, but I've been meaning to.

That movie made me want to rip my eyes out. What were they doing travelling across space and teleporting, and having 3d holograms and all that shit, but one guy had a dragunov, and one guy had an mp5.... where's the imagination? I'm not even going to get into how Earth-like the planets they landed on were, that was just laughable.

I hope no one tells me that it's "explained in the TV series" because uh, if it were, well they should have explained it in the movie too. They can't just cater to their hardcore audience... unless they're really that stupid.

I can't say I noticed the weapons that much (even if I am the kind of person who always notices what weapons are being used in a films - oh look, a G36 - again!) but I guess in a sense it was designed to make things seem less futuristic and more archaic. It did sometimes irk me but I never really felt it detracted from the feel of the thing, especially with so many wild west references already in there.

As for the planets, I'm pretty sure it explained at the beginning that all the planets the Alliance landed on got terraformed.

I know Sulk covered most of it but...

They never teleported. The Guns never matter in the Film or Firefly, it's about the story and the characters. The planets were teraformed, so that they would look like Earth. Also it's only 500 years into the future...

I saw Serenity first off, I picked up most of the backstory and the stuble hints, then I became a hardcore fan.

I assumed the imagination went into the plot, or the characters, rather than the guns.

Besides, energy weapons are so 1990's

Firefly is the most awesome live-action program EVER. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

EDIT: didn't like Serenity purely because of that person who dies near the end :(

The guns are more crazy in the movie than in the series, which often featured shotguns and other basic designs. And its not anything out of place in the show/movie either, because if your population is gonna use a horse to get around then you're not going to be above using old gun designs. A gun is a gun and will kill a person dead even if its not fancy.

You didn't pay attention did you? Watch the series because it pwns the movie. The movie also pwns, thats how awsome the series is.

They did that because they had a very low budget and its a futuristic world but they were on the outer rim planets most of the time where people can't afford awsome weapons and what not so they use the cheaper older technology. In the series a guy has a laser pistol when they visit ranch durgis(sp?) in heart of gold. That technology is usually reserved for alliance and is illegal for private owners but he is rich as hell so he bought it.

You should watch the series, you will understand that this isn't a star wars movie. It is often called a sci fi/wester. IMO I dont see laser guns and lightsabres in western movies. The guns they use fit the movie, just because a movie doesn't use "futuristic" weapons doesn't make it un imaginitive. I wonder if you even watched the movie to say its un imaginitive.

I loved the movie, and I'm sure I'd like the series if I could ever watch it....but I'm not a HARDCORE fan of it. I'd like to see more of the whole thing though.

Just tune into Sci-Fi on fridays and catch an episode. See if it gets your hooked.

I just found out two days ago that the movie is already out! i thought it was still in the making! I suppose it never reached this corner of the galaxy. :/

Serenity is gonna be one of the Launch Lineup for HD-DVD in March. If it does well I imagine Whedon will be offered a second movie from Universal. You heard it here first folks!

I watched Serenity on DVD tonight. I was completely lost in the beginning. I guess it was okay. I've never watched the series so maybe that's why I was so lost and confused.

Somewhat yeah...the series magnifies this awsome movie 100x.

Watch the series...it is orgasmicly good.

Just watch the series. I think the movie is average.

I thought the movie was great aside from killing off two of the better charachters, but yeah, the TV show allowed Whedon to flesh out the charachters much more, so in that sense it was better.

Sorry... I had to get it through. Just finished watching the series.
EDIT: I think the Movie and Series are different storylines. Same 'verse, different storyline.

The movie takes place 9 months after the first firefly ep AFAIK.
