Or make that stuff against the rules in offtopic. There is no point in it being posted, and theres nothing to discuss (all posts contain the same "disgusting/person should be killed" comments). It makes the site less enjoyable to see stuff like "man rapes fetus while devouring his wife" every time I enter offtopic. It has driven me amost exclusively into the art forum and pretty much off of the site.

I agree to an extent. Personally i'm not that disturbed by them, but the occassional odd story can be entertaining or puzzling and spark a nice debate. But some in there of recent are more about shock tactics and just weird horrible things. I would prefer some boundaries which shouldn't be crossed for a cleaner more upbeat off-topic forum. Would be appreciated by some others i'm sure.

Why would you want to post news about horrible/disgusting news? Is there that much to discuss about it?

You need a fetish forum or something...

Yea those kinds of posts do get on my nerves; so I don't read them :)

I say the mods should crack down on them.

I concur. They don't really provoke discussion. Just outrage.

Suicide: I don't read them, but when I see them I usually just close the whole off-topic tab and that means I probably miss any threads that are good. :( But when I read the titles all I see are things with news I don't want to hear, things I've already seen, and vague titles that I don't really feel like checking to see if they're good or bad.

bliink: Those and others.

I don't actually want it, I just want it out of offtopic. But I said that in my first post.

Well if you see something you might think gross just dont read it

/me will be forum mistress!.

Anyways, a forum for sick/disgusting news? What the hell? Theres only one or two threads about bad news posted a week, hardly warrants its own forum.

Skarrob read the thread before posting he's already stated he doesn't read them and stays away from that forums because of it. It has become a worse off forum recently. I'm sure you'd agree bliink that it's not the nicest place to be, and that it should be cleaned up *nudge nudge maybe*

The whole point is I don't want to see it, and when its the first thing I see in offtopic, it just pisses me off. Saying it needs its own forum was not really a serious comment.

bwahahahaha, I must have missed all thoes truly awesome threads ;p

Please don't interrupt mid-thread just to ask what the point of the thread is.

I'll explain now what the point of this thread is.

wha......?

I say people stop bitching about it and shut the hell up. You don't need to read them, and the title always gives them away. Seriously, why would you click on the goddamn thread if you don't want to hear about it? And usually the thread just consists of a fraction of an article and a link, which would require ANOTHER CLICK!

You seriously read the title of a thread and close the window in disgust? You must not watch the news much, eh?

Plus if you make a rule of it, it might get out of hand. I thought that the "Man's leg falling from the sky" was interesting, but some people might find it "useless and disgusting." Which is stupid, because weird stuff like that is interesting to me and not useless, or disgusting. Little anticdotes like that are what makes off topic... off topic. Banning people or locking threads because they posted something "gross" is just ridiculous.

The admins and mods need to completely control whats being written in this site.

Yes, that is my opinion.

No body cares about your opinion, you are just one man! You can't change anything....or CAN you.
/looks around nervously

But seriously if there is any more censorship around here I will leave. If we can't have our goatse threads they may as well take away our souls.

I've been gone for a few days but what's all this Munro-avatar-ness?

And I said I disliked those kind of threads ages ago. :p Perhaps not ages, but didn't feel it warranted an entire thread.

Maybe some people are interested in them, its not the actual topic that bothers me, its the pointlessness of the posts following it, and the arguments and flaming that some times follow.

RakuraiTenjin posted 3 out of 4 of bliinks examples as well. :-/
Maybe he just likes provoking volatile discussions. The "If you don't like it, don't read it" argument can be applied to anything, and it really is a cop-out answer. Don't like the Nazi's? Just leave it. Don't like racism? Just leave it.

I agree 100%. We're not forcing you to read it, and if you think the title of the thread alone is something to warrant censorship, well that's honestly quite absurd.

I don't particularly want to see threads in the music forum about Oasis and Coldplay, or threads in General Games about whether or not the Killzone video was pre-rendered. Or threads in here saying "I don't like these types of threads, close them now!", but hi, welcome to the wonderful world of discussion!

The threads in question are merely reporting on weird and wonderful news from around the world. They do not disguise the content, you know exactly what you're in for straight away from the thread title. If the thread titles were something along the lines of "Milk Comes From Cows" and then the contents were "LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLAOLALAOALAOALAOALAOL girlshittinginbath.jpg" then they'd be against the forum rules and they'd be closed.

And if someone wants to throw the "but this forum has young kids on it!!!1" argument at me, remember that at the time of sign-up all users are required to confirm that they're over 13 years old. If they do not, that have to acquire parental permission through the COPPA system. Would anyone like to take a guess at how many COPPA users we have registered? Don't bother, I'll tell you. Zero. Also, let's not forget that Half-Life 2, they game we're all here for is rated 15+.

In conclusion, no the threads won't be closed purely for linking to a news story some might find distasteful. There will be no crackdown.

Zerimski, tbh your argument that there are no COPPA users registred doesn't really count.

You know yourself that there are a lot of people younger than 13 here. Do you really think that they are reading everything when they sign-up? Even when they do, who is going to bother their parents with something like that.

But then if they lie when they sign-up, why should we cater to them? We take the appropriate steps. Also, let's not skip over my comments about the main subject matter of this forum being rated 15+.

We do not cater for children here, and the moderation of these threads will reflect this. If you like I can make a Kiddies Corner, where they can discuss how girls are icky and what trading cards are cool these days.

And anyway, the stories are readily available on many well-known news sources. If they see fit to report on it, why shouldn't we allow discussion of it?

I'm not talking about the weird and wonderful news that often leads to funny discussion. I'm talking about the "Man rapes 7 week old child/abortionist eats fetuses" type stuff which only end up with a bunch of replies saying "disgusting, that guy should be killed/raped." and flaming like "lol thats america for you."

I'm not saying eew thats icky or trying to protect children. I'm saying most of those threads just lead to spam and there isn't usually any intelligent or funny discussion in them.

KIDDIE FORUM FTW!!!!

Me and outpost will have lot 'o fun.

make sure there's a sandbox kthxbye.

Maybe Half Life 2 is 15+ in the UK, but it is 18+ here in the USA. Sort of.

But, torso boy, why the hell do you really care if there is flaming and spam in a thread that you don't even read? I thought you said you didn't read these threads, you just got "disgusted" and closed the entire window...

Censorship and rules for NO good reason just leads to stupidness. Big, fat, smelly, baby-eating, dog-raping, severed leg-falling, canabalistic face-eating stupidness.

If you're so disgusted by that stuff, why is your name Torso Boy? Wouldn't that be the result of a horrific accident or a terrible birth defect?
