If you look at the video, you can see one of the side edges of that spoiler breaking off, and suddenly the car has no downforce on one side, and he loses complete control. All the downward wind force and sudden change of direction is probably what ripped apart the other parts of the car before he hit the wall.

I was watching this on History Channel, so decided I'd put the video up here since he didn't die.

No, actually he's very lucky he survived such an impact and trauma. Even with the roll cage and everything, chances are he would have died.

It took him an entire year to recover in the hospital after the accident. It wasn't one of those things he walked away from.
