horrible echo

after doing a windows repair and reinstalling things like my mobo sound driver, video card driver, directx and chipset driver, all my source based game have an echo to ever noise. it's driving me insane! please help make them stop

Usually reloading the level clears that problem up for me, but your problem sounds much more serious.

i know a little bit more about the problem. sorta. this has occured after doing a windows reboot/repair from the disk. after this i had to reinstall drivers for most everything. it seems the most current drivers sound horrible, but after i rolled them back no change. under the general options for realtek, it says the drivers are the same and they were never rolled back, but under properties it says the were rolled back. i also wondered if changing the codec might help, but i have no idea what a codec is and what the old one i used was if it changed
