Ongoing story. As many as 41 hostages and 6 people shot.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – A law enforcement official says a gunman at an immigration services center in New York state entered the building firing after blocking the back door.

The official says the gunman used his car to barricade the rear door of the building and then entered through the front. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the situation continued.

Officials and media reports say at least six people have been injured and as many as 41 hostages taken at the American Civic Association.

4 dead 12 injured ..these stories rarely raise an eyebrow any more as they're so common. It's gotten to the point that body count is the meter as to how popular the story will be

i wonder what the message or point was. Immigration people are the poorest people looking for a new hope.
 
this is actually quite scary for everyone here. i live in binghamton and work a few blocks from where this happened. my friend was actually supposed to take an immigration test there today

no he didnt go today thank god. but i cant even go to work today because apparently a guy escaped from the building is running free so they have a manhunt going on downtown

lock your doors and stay inside. i'd get my weapons out and be prepared. there could have been 5 bad guys for all you know and they're on a suicide mission

i live across the river thank god. Binghamton has been making the news more often lately. Our college made it to the NCAA but got shut out by duke. And now this. Hardly anyone knows about binghamton. we were actually on one of the russians nuclear strike list because we used to make guidance chips here for missles at IBM. But its coll and scary to see my town on national news because of this shooting that shouldnt have happened
 
We should bomb his homecountry so innocent people are never killed like this again.

Um... How the hell else do you expect it to work? It's always been that way, what do you mean "gotten to the point".

The more tragic or horrifying something is, the more it's going to be on the news. More people killed = more tragic and horrifying. What problem do you have with this correlation? What other way do you propose we quantify the news-worthy-ness of a tragedy such as this?
 
I heard that when World War II was going on, all people were talking about was how little Sally Sitwell from Westchester got stuck in a well.

Apparently the gunman fought in Vietnam and had problems. Still no excuse to kill people and then yourself. If you feel the urge to kill people kill rapists, pedophilers and corrupt politicians. at least kill the guilty people in this world.

um..no it was a immigration center so I kinda assumed it racially driven and this morning I didnt know what skin color the guys had,no need to be asshole about it.
 
Yeah, I just heard on the news that it might have been terrorists.
