I read about two-thirds of it in PDF form, and it did nothing for me. But I think after seeing those Understanding Joshua pictures, and being fully and perpetually disturbed by them, I'll give it a fresh read. I really want this book to scare me

After you mentioned this book in the other thread I did a search and read a short review of the book. So fill me in, what exactly is the horror element in that story, the hallucinations or what?

It's just... the way it's written, and the way the plot unfolds, you have no idea what you're afraid of- you just sure as hell know you're afraid of it. And reading it on the computer will do nothing- make SURE you either buy it, borrow it, or get it from a library.

Reading this book in PDF form is like watching a LOTR bootleg made by a blind man with parkinsons.*

Also, note that I found out about this book through 4chan. The reason? It scared the /b/tards shitless. We're talking guys who laugh at decapitated toddlers being scared so badly that they won't turn off the lights. Yeah :|

Wow they scare pretty easily. I mean, i love the book, and some moments in it are pretty creepy, but if they can't turn off the lights after reading something from a ficticious book, they are a ****ing pussy.

Love the book though. The only thing i didn't like about it, was the end of The Navidson Report.

The big bad wolf comes to this family who has a house made of leaves. They're all like "oh shit he has breath!" so they confront the wolf. The wolf turns out to be something much more sinister.

begins with a first person narrative by Johnny Truant, a Los Angeles tattoo parlor employee. Truant is searching for a new apartment when his friend Lude tells him about the apartment of the recently deceased Zampan?, a blind, elderly man who lived in the same building as Lude.

In Zampan?'s apartment, Truant discovers a manuscript written by Zampan? which turns out to be a very academic study of a documentary film called The Navidson Record.

The rest of the novel alternates between Zampan?'s report on the fictional film, Johnny's autobiographical interjections, and occasional brief notes by unidentified editors, all woven together by a mass of footnotes. There is also a fourth narrator, Johnny's mother, whose voice is presented through a self-contained set of letters titled The Whalestoe Letters. Each narrator's text is printed in a distinct font, making it easier for the reader to follow the sometimes challenging format of the novel.


I understand why the 4chan guys love it so much:
