how can i play counterstrike with bots only?

i just wanted to try counterstrike for the first time. i heard you can now play with just bots and even offline. i can't work out what menu options i need to set up to just play with bots.

also when i try to play the loading page seems to hang when the bar is 2/3 of the way through. i have to use ctrl/alt/del to escape.

any ideas?

Just create a server and change the bot options to how you want them.

The bar isn't hanging at 2/3 through, but that section of loading does take a while to load. Just takes patients .

cos otherwise its back to 999+ ping

Yes, just start your own server with all bots.

You have to download all the updates first, because bots were part of an update, they don't come with the retail version of the game. And it'll probably take ages to do on a 56k, I suggest leaving it download overnight.

when you say start with all bots... i only see an option of typing in how many bots, how do you select which side and set the thing up to play offline?

Actually, mine does that, the whole thing crashes,

to play with bots, you have to create a server with the "play with bots" checkbox unchecked, then start the game,

when the map has loaded, open the console and type, "bot_add_ct" or "bot_add_t" to add counter-terrorists and terrorists.

1) Create server
2) See attached image, making sure you have ticked checkbox
3) Set number of bots to whatever you want (odd number if you want even sides)
4) Click 'Start'
5) Click OK on Welcome Screen
6) Choose which side you want to play on
7) Play CS:S with bots
