How can I play old game in window in windows7?

I am playing Age of Empire (yes, the one that has stone age). But I am playing the game in wide screen, so the resolution sucked. Is there a way to play the game in a window?

My OS is windows 7.

Any suggestion?

Have you tried Compatibility Mode? I'd assume running as if it was in windows XP would work?

The game worked miraculously in Windows 7.
But I inteded to play the game in a small window, so the resolution can be better.

A lot of old games don't have the windowed options we use today. Starcraft needs a 3rd party program to do so.

It was originally made as an app to force Maple Story (lol) into windowed mode, but I've seen it recommended a few times for various older games as well. Note I've never actually tried it out myself, I've just heard second-hand success stories. The quick google search I did for it didn't come up with anything fishy, at least.
