how do i change resolution out of game

i set my resolution to 1600x1200 but my monitor cant handle that at any refresh rate and i had to ctrl alt del out, how do i change it to boot in 1280x1024 so i can keep playing it

Right click on Half-Life 2 (or the game that you're trying to play) in your Games List.

Select Properties.

Click on Launch Options.

Type in:

-w 1280 -h 1024
