How do i make gifs???

I want to know how i would make animated gifs, like the ones people have in thier avatars, all i need are links to trainers or something, i am willing to learn. Not complicated ones just something simple to start with, say changing colours, are thier any programs that'l make it easy or simple?

I suggest using GIF Movie Gear, basically, all you have to do is make several images (frames, if you will) that are slightly different, put them in order, and turn it into a gif. It makes more sense once you look at the program (or any gif making program), enjoy
