How do i remix music?

I was wondering how i could remix music from Hl2 and such, do i need a special program or what, if so any good easy to usefree programs?

Cool Edit could probably do it to some extent, but don't expect to do blastin' beats at the first try. You could also try Cubase since it's got great ways of altering the sounds aswell etc. (In fact, I think I'll give it a try)

Just a quick question involving editing, I've got a piece of music that's about an hour and thrity minutes long but I just want to cut out about 5 minutes of it and make a mp3 out of that. Do those programs above do that? Or do I need a different one?

Soundforge and Wavelab are not freeware but you can download pirated versions from two or three years ago, no one will care and they are complete professional sound editing tools.

Yeah, Sound Forge would be the way to go.

As for actually making songs, if you're dead serious, consider Propellerheads Reason. It's the grandaddy of all music workstations (minus audio editing--if you need that too, check out Logic, Cakewalk Sonar, Steinberg Cubase, Nuendo). A simple Google search will get you the links to the homepages.

As for pirated versions... well, if I tell you, they'd send me to jail.
