A long story short, I backed up my SAVE folder. Then UNinstalled everything. Rebooted, then re-installed everything. Then, copied my backup of SAVE to the newly installed SAVE folder. But, when I run HL2, and try Load Saved Game, I get a -- there are none and looks like I have to start all over again!

So I started a new game, hoping to smack HL2 up the side enough to find the otehr saves - nope! BUT, there are new files there - TGA files (out-of-the-norm pic files which were not there before, or at least, for asome odd reason, didn't copy when I backed up tghe save folder.

I took a new pic, renamed it to match an older game save - still doesn't help.

Is there a list somewhere else in anotehr folder I should have backed up or why won't HL2 see the restored game saves? I'd hate to play through all that again just to get to the dune buggy set - which I don't think is too far from the end.

Yes, insert this command into the developers console. Go to options on the menu screen, then to keyword, then click advanced. Tick the box which says 'enable developers console', and click OK. On the main menu once again press the ' key which is located underneath Esc, to the left of the number 1. This will open the console. Input this command to this location. When you click 'New Game' now, it will give all the chapters to choose from. You can open this console at any point when playing the game to input commands to change settings or do cheats.

For cheat mode type in sv_cheats 1. Then put in 'god' for godmode, or impulse 101 for all weapons.

Above 'enable developers console' it says 'enable fast weapon swtich' -- what is that?

When you use mousewheel, instead of giving you that little weapon menu thing, it just switches the weapon.

Yes! Thank you very much. That did it. I was able to get back to near where I was when I had to reinstall everything - thanks very much.
