I have some files that I need to transfer to another PC in my house that has a CD writer.....

They are both connected to wireless network......how do I transfer stuff?

Ive tried looking on the net and they all talk about through USB or whatever......

I am hoping that there is a folder that is shared by all the computers on the network (3) that I can put the file into and then it will appear in the shared folder on the destination computer......this is what Im hoping for as if its any harder than that ...then......;(

any help would be great....thanks

EDIT: they are large files so yousendit or megaupload will take too long.....just incase anyone recommeneds them :)

The folder idea isn't going to happen unless you'r pc's are all hooked to a server.

You could set your hdd as shared, but i've never done that and don't know the proper procedures.

Yah, there is the "Shared Documents" folder in My Computer. Just copy the files you want to share into there. Atlternetly, you can just right-click on the files you want to share (or the whole folder) and click Proporties, then goto the Sharing tab, and click the "Share this [Folder, File] on the network. You may need to click a link in that window first to get the "Share this..." check box.

Then just get on the other computer, goto "My Network Places", there should be a "View workgroup computers" button or "Entire Network" button somewhere. If your other computer dosent show up, make sure that it dosent have a firewall running (Windows XP one or otherwise). If that still dosent work, you'll need to get the IP address of the Sharing Computer and then type in the Address bar \\IPaddressHere .

Get back to us if this dosent work.

Not true. As long as their on the same network they can share files/folders.

You need to run the Small Home Network Setup whatever wizzard on both computers. After that, it should show up in "My Network Places" and all you have to do is share the C: drive of the computer you want to get files from. Not too hard, I did this and it all went along just fine.

I thought he meant like how it is on office networks and such, where workers put their files into a folder on a server, then anyone on the network/connected to the server can access the files.

Don't share your entire C drive if you're at all concerned about security. If you're running XP, just copy your files to the Shared Documents folder, as mentioned, and enable File & Print Sharing. If you're running another flavor of Windows, make a new folder somewhere, copy your files there, enable File & Print Sharing, and then share the folder. If you're running Linux, it's a different story...

Alternately, you could also just share the CD burner.

Share the C drive just for the time being, obviously don't leave it shared forever. And sharing the CD burner is possible, but I do not think that the files can transfer at the speed that the CD burner will be requesting it. So you'll get burning errors. Also, I'm not even sure if you can burn that way. I think it just allows you to see what is in the CD from the other computer.

Just share the right folders and transfer from disc to disc then burn the disc. You could even delete teh files once you have burnt them to save on disc space on teh cd writer pc. I do it with my music, video's and apps folders on my wlan so my sister's can listen to the music on the other pc connected.

EDIT: Just right click on the network, then goto "sharing and security" on teh pull down menu. When the pop-up window appears, check the box, "Share this folder on the network" and if you want I think you can set the name for the folder on teh network. once you have shared it, you will be able to access it on the other computer in My network places.

if it's over wireless and you are transferring like...10 gigs...it's gonna be SLLOOOOWWWW.

Typical burn speed is under 8 MB/s. Most modern wired networks run at 12.5 MB/s, but if your network wasn't fast enough, you could always temporarily reduce your burn speed. Obviously, though, you wouldn't leave it like that forever. ;)

Don't most modern burning programs cache the files to be burnt onto a local disc before to prevent buffer under/overruns? I know nero does and I'm sure other do too.
